Team India Test and ODI skipper Shubman Gill will begin his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru from December 1. Gill is recovering well and is expected to resume training, but his availability for the upcoming five-match T20I series will depend on medical and readiness assessments.
The captain has been out of action since suffering a neck injury during the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata. He was ruled out of the second Test and the ODI leg of the series. The ongoing multi-format series will conclude with the Men in Blue, led by Suryakumar Yadav, taking on the Proteas in the T20Is.
Shubman Gill Asked to Report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ahead of T20Is
Shubman Gill has been asked to report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence about a week before the T20I series against South Africa, according to a report by The Times of India. He completed physiotherapy sessions in Mumbai before traveling to Chandigarh to spend time with his family.
Gill is expected to fly from Chandigarh to Bengaluru on Monday to begin the next phase of his rehabilitation. He has avoided batting during this period and is likely to resume hitting under the guidance of the BCCI’s medical staff.
"It is learnt that the 26-year-old had physiotherapy sessions in Mumbai before he flew to Chandigarh to spend time with his family. He will be flying to Bengaluru from Chandigarh on Monday," the report read.
Shubman Gill Has Not Felt Any Discomfort Despite Multiple Flights in Recent Days
The report added that Shubman Gill has not felt any discomfort even after taking several flights in recent days. A BCCI official told Times of India that Gill’s rehabilitation is moving in the right direction and that there are no concerns at this stage.
“There are no red flags at the moment and he has taken multiple flights without any discomfort. All efforts right now are aimed at having him back on the park but it will not be a rushed process.”
“The moment he is 100% and feels ready for the grind, he will be back with the squad. He is an important all format player and everyone wants him to be absolutely ready.”
Shubman Gill’s Participation in the T20I Series Depends on His Recovery
Shubman Gill’s neck injury forced him off the field after facing only three balls in the first Test, and he did not return for the remainder of the match. He was taken to the hospital and discharged, but the injury was serious enough to rule him out of the second Test in Guwahati.
Gill travelled with the team for the second Test but couldn’t recover in time to play. His availability for the upcoming T20I series, beginning December 9, will depend on his recovery. After missing the second Test and ODIs, Gill is pushing hard to regain full fitness before the shortest format begins.
He will now undergo structured rehab in Bengaluru, where his workload and recovery will be monitored closely by the BCCI medical staff.
