Shubman Gill Test
PC: X

Former South African wicket-keeper batsman Mark Boucher has raised eyebrows with his pick of the next four big players in international cricket in the coming years. What has surprised the fans the most is the absence of Indian stalwart Shubman Gill.

His inclusions seemed interesting, but the exclusion of Indian skipper Shubman Gill after the recent form he has shown seems an awkward choice. Shubman Gill has been in some form of his life ever since he took over as the captain of the Indian Test side.

He amassed a total of 585 runs across the two matches played in Headingley and Edgbaston; Shubman Gill's stunning double-hundred in the first innings of Edgbaston, followed by a hundred in the next inning, helped him take a huge leap of 15 positions to take the 6th spot overall in the ICC Test Rankings.

Mark Boucher snubs Shubman Gill

On ESPN Cricinfo's 25 Questions show, Mark Boucher was asked about who he identifies as the next big names of cricket in the coming years.

“Three young players today who do you think could be stars of the future?" He mentioned four “names—"Tilak Varma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and I will name four—(Tristan) Stubbs and (Dewald) Brevis."

Tilak Varma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tristan Stubbs, and Dewald Brevis were picked by Boucher. They all made their international debuts after making an impact in their U-19 World Cup. Jaiswal was stunned by his domination in the Test and T20Is, while Tilak Varma has been part of India's T20I setup.

Tristan Stubbs has emerged as an all-format player for South Africa. Dewald Brevis has taken the centre in recent times for South Africa.

Boucher made another shocking choice for the All-time best T20 XI

During the question-and-answer session, Boucher revealed that he had three players whom he would pick in the all-time T20 11. He mentioned the names of former South African Heinrich Klaasen and Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav, alongside the great Sachin Tendulkar.

Mark Boucher, arguably one of the greatest wicket-keepers of modern times, when asked to pick a wicket-keeper batsman after his time, named Indian veteran MS Dhoni. However, he clarified that when it comes to standing back, he rated former South African Quinton de Kock for his aerial abilities.

Mark Boucher has named 4 Mumbai Indians boys amid questions

Mark Boucher, the former Mumbai Indians head coach, is surely reminiscing about his days with the IPL franchise. In the question-and-answer session with ESPN Cricinfo, when asked about players in various aspects of the game, Boucher has made some shocking choices.

From excluding Shubman Gill as the next superstar to including veteran cricketer Sachin Tendulkar in his all-time T20 XI, he has amazed all. But what he did best was name several MI players in the quest for answers.

He has named Dewald Brevis and youngster Tilak Varma the former and current MI men, among the Fab-4. He has picked Suryakumar Yadav in his all-time T20 11, among three players to be named, and also identified Hardik Pandya as the most complete white-ball cricketer in today's cricket circuit.
