Losing the toss and bowling, the Gujarat Titans bowlers had a horrible outing, and they allowed the Mumbai Indians to register a colossal score of 228/5 on the board in their 20 overs.

GT bowlers produced wicket-taking opportunities at crucial moments, but they didn't find support from the fielders. Rohit Sharma, who played a match-winning knock of 81 runs, was dropped twice during his innings.

First, the Proteas pacer Gerald Coetzee dropped him in the deep, and then Kusal Perera failed to grab a catch behind the stumps to give a second lifeline to Rohit Sharma. Also, Suryakumar Yadav got a reprieve as he was dropped by a GT fielder.

Definitely not easy when we drop 3 sitters - Shubman Gill

Speaking after the match, Shubman Gill, who scored 1 run in the Eliminator, didn't show any mercy and openly slammed the poor fielding efforts of his teammates, which resulted in Gujarat Titans getting a big score to chase. He said:

"Brilliant game of cricket, we were right in it. Last three-four overs didn't go our way but still a good game. Definitely not easy when we drop 3 sitters. Wasn't easy for the bowlers to control and doesn't help when you drop 3 catches."

Definitely lot of positives for us - Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill further said that the duo of Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar were told to play their natural game after he and Kusal Mendis fell early, and take the team to a win.

GT skipper added that they had quite a few positives from their Indian Premier League 2025 campaign, with the biggest one being the performance of Sai Sudharsan. Shubman Gill said:

"Message was simple (for Sai and Washington). Just play the game you want to play and the goal was the same for both of them to make us win. Because of the dew, the wicket did become little easier for us. Definitely lot of positives for us. Last 2-3 games didn't go our way but credit to all the players, especially Sai - he was terrific for us this season. 210 would've been par for us on this pitch."

Sai Sudharsan slammed a brilliant 80 runs off 49 balls, with 10 fours and 1 six, in the Eliminator, but he was unable to steer his team to triumph, and they were restricted to 208/6.
