Shubman Gill ruled out of India's biggest tournament in 2025

Indian batter Shubman Gill has been snubbed from the race for the ODI captaincy due to a toiling internal schedule comprising Test, ODI, and T20 bilateral series across the next few months in international cricket.
The Asia Cup squad was announced by the Indian selection committee recently, which led to some outrage among Indian fans, as everyone expected a likely comeback of Punjab Kings skipper and Indian middle-order kingpin, Shreyas Iyer. However, the Ajit Agarkar-led committee did not include the batter in the 15-member squad.
Another major news that hit the ICT fans was the BCCI urging skipper Rohit Sharma to announce his retirement from the ODI format, with the Australia series being a farewell series for the veteran skipper. However, either of these news reports needs an official confirmation.
Dainik Jagran has reported Shreyas Iyer as Rohit Sharma's successor in ODIs
Recently, Dainik Jagran from India reported that Shreyas Iyer, the middle-order batter who has been snubbed from the Asia Cup squad, will feature as India's next ODI captain, replacing Rohit Sharma after his retirement.
Though the reports still need an official confirmation, a formal acceptance from Rohit Sharma would also be needed to account for his retirement plans. The batter previously had shown no such intention; however, his stance will be one to look at.
However, this report has made it clear that though Shubman Gill might be the frontrunner in the other two formats, this format has been dominated by Shreyas Iyer, and even the BCCI has made some bigger plans for the star.
Abhishek Tripathi clears the lookout behind Shubman Gill's ODI captaincy snub
While recent reports have suggested Shreyas Iyer being the frontrunner, initial reports had hinted towards Shubman Gill being considered as Rohit's successor. To this, Dainik Jagran senior journalist Abhishek Tripathi has made a clear statement.
"If you ask, why is this happening with Gill? Then you need to see the tournament-wise workload of Gill. Shubman captained India in the 5-match series against England and will feature in the Asia Cup as the vice-captain, which will be followed by a Test series against the West Indies. This much workload might keep the 25-year-old batter out of participation in the ODIs against Australia," Tripathi observed.
"Gill will further play the Australia T20s, which will once again be followed immediately by the two Tests against South Africa, where Gill will be the captain."
"Most probably, Gill will not play in the three ODIs that follow the South African Test series; hence, Gill cannot be the skipper after such a compelling schedule. Hence, citing this busy schedule, this multiple-captain ideology has been formulated," Abhishek Tripathi concluded.
This is true anyway that playing as a player and as a captain are two different roles; hence, Tripathi confirmed that Shreyas will be the ODI skipper while Shubman Gill takes up captaincy in the Tests and later the T20I format as well.

Gautam Gambhir's one-captain-across-formats model denied by BCCI
Gautam Gambhir, the current Indian head coach, is known to have pinned his thoughts on the team management; however, this time his ideal has been sidelined by the Indian management and the BCCI.
Gambhir urged for a one-captain model, considering Shubman Gill's appointment across all three formats of the game. However, considering the increasing workload on the player, BCCI has made other plans and has opposed Gambhir's theory, claiming India has achieved success only with a single skipper across all three formats.
