India’s interim T20I skipper Shubman Gill shared a crucial message with newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir after winning the ongoing series against Zimbabwe. Shubman Gill highlighted the strength of the current Indian team and hoped to continue with the same squad under the new coaching staff.

Gautam Gambhir will begin his tenure as head coach during the upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. Gambhir is expected to make his mark in the squad selection for the three-match T20I and three-match ODI series. He is reportedly set to meet with the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee next week.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20I cricket after the T20 World Cup 2024 final. Gambhir will face the challenging task of finding replacements for them. Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kuldeep Yadav are expected to return to the T20 team.

We Will Be Able To Take The Team Forward - Shubman Gill

In the post-match presentation, Shubman Gill praised the current squad, describing it as a great team with a strong group of players. Gill expressed optimism that they would be able to take the team forward.

“This is a great team, great bunch of players. Hopefully, we will be able to take the team forward,” Gill stated during the post-match presentation.

The Men in Blue suffered a shocking loss to Zimbabwe during the series opener. However, the Shubman Gill-led team bounced back to win the next three matches. The Indian cricket team clinched the series with an unassailable 3-1 lead in Harare. It is Shubman Gill's first series as captain of the Indian team.

The Indian team secured a convincing ten-wicket victory over Zimbabwe on Saturday, July 13. Chasing a target of 153, openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill guided the team to the target with 28 balls to spare. Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 93 runs off 53 balls, while Gill added an unbeaten 58 runs off 39 balls.

We Will Let You Know At The Toss Tomorrow

Shubman Gill stated that the team management focused on improving their chase after failing in the first match. He noted that the job is not yet complete despite securing the series. Regarding potential changes, Gill mentioned that no discussions with the coach have occurred yet.

“Chasing was one thing we talked about. We could not do it in the first game, so good to get it done. The job is not done, though,” Gill said.

“Haven’t had the discussion with the coach. If there are any changes, we will let you know at the toss tomorrow,” he further stated.

India has given debuts to four players Abhishek Sharma, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, and Tushar Deshpande in the ongoing T20I series in Zimbabwe. The final game of the series will be played at the same venue on Sunday, July 14.
