Shubman Gill hasn't scored a Test fifty outside since slamming 91 in Gabbai in 2021
Gill hasn't scored a Test fifty outside since slamming 91 in Gabba during the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under. In the ongoing series, the batter has struggled to get going as well and has failed to score big in the two games that he has played.
Gill missed the first game in Perth due to a finger injury. He made a return to the team in the second match and looked in good touch in both the innings. However, he failed to cover the starts that he got as his torrid run in overseas Tests continued.

Shubman Gill or Nitish Kumar Reddy likely to make way for Washington Sundar for the MCG Test
Gill, then in Gabba, got out early in the first innings and didn't get an opportunity to bat in the second innings due to rain. There are chances that he might dropped, as reports in the Times of India claimed that team management is looking to add a second spinner to the team.
It is learned that if Washington Sundar comes into the playing XI, then either Shubman Gill or Nitish Kumar Reddy will have to warm the bench. This could be a massive jolt for the young batter, who is touted as the future of the India National Cricket Team. Another report suggests that only two of Gill, Nitish, and Sundar will play the MCG Test.
The Test series between the India National Cricket Team and the Australia National Cricket Team is levelled at 1-1. If the Rohit Sharma-led side manages to win one game out of two, they will retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and will also move one step ahead towards the final of the ICC World Test Championship.
Update 2 : 2 of Gill, Nitish, Sundar to play. Not a big point but debate is Gill not scoring, Nitish scoring and Sundar can score. So if Gill is dropped there is an extra bowling option. Key is shud Gill be dropped or given another chance?
