Team India's all-season man, KL Rahu,l steps up again when the team needs him the most. India got a shaky start in the third ODI match against West Indies in New Chandigarh. West Indies was able to pick up multiple wickets in a crucial part of the first innings of the match.

At the moment when Caribbean bowlers were in full flow to corner the Men in Blue, KL Rahul stood tall like a wall of stone. On the fourth ball of the 49th over of the innings, the right-handed experienced batter completed his ninth ODI hundred to help India secure a formidable total on the scoreboard.

Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli celebrate KL Rahul's 9th ODI century.

Rahul smashed a huge six off the West Indies fast bowler, Jayden Seales, to complete his century in the match. According to Cricbuzz stats, Rahul has become the eighth player to score a century this series, the second most in a bilateral series of any length, only one fewer than nine in the India-Australia series in India in 2013.

The batter immediately took off his helmet to celebrate the moment in style. While he was soaking up the applause from the crowd, the two Indian cricket legends, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill, were on their feet to appreciate Rahul for his timely effort.

KL Rahul creates record surpassing MS Dhoni

It was a record-breaking knock from KL Rahul, surpassing former India captain MS Dhoni's one of the records. Rahul remained unbeaten after the end of the first innings with a 129-run knock off 87 balls. During the innings, the keeper-batter smashed ten 4s and six 6s with a strike rate of 148.28. He came to bat at No.5.

The unbeaten 129 is the third-highest knock played by a Number 5 batter for the Indian cricket team. Before Rahul, the third spot in the list belonged to MS Dhoni for his 124 against Australia in Nagpur in 2009. Yuvraj Singh's 139 remains the best for a No.5 batter for the Indian national cricket team; Singh made the record in 2004 while batting against Australia in Sydney.

Highest for India batting at No.5:

139 Yuvraj Singh vs Australia, Sydney 2004
134 MS Dhoni vs England, Cuttack 2017
129* KL Rahul vs West Indies, New Chandigarh 2026
124 MS Dhoni vs Aus, Nagpur 2009

Most ODI Hundreds at No. 5 for India

Yuvraj Singh - 7 (92 innings)
KL Rahul - 4 (36 innings)
MS Dhoni - 4 (83 innings)
Suresh Raina - 3 (82 innings)

India secures a massive total in the first innings

With the hundred-plus run knock, the Indian cricket team posted a strong total in the first innings of the third match of the three-match ODI series.

To win the match, West Indies will have to score 352 runs in 50 overs. India is already leading the series by 2-0; this match is nothing but a dead rubber for them. But for West Indies, it is a prestige fight.
