Former India National Cricket Team spinner Piyush Chawla has issued a bold verdict on the Shubman Gill-led Test team ahead of the five-match series against the England National Cricket Team.
Shubman Gill will be at the helm for the very first time after being appointed as the permanent captain of the Indian Test team, and leading the side in an away tour in England will be a huge challenge for him.

India tour of England 2025 to start on June 20
The upcoming Test series between India and England will be part of the 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle. India will lock horns with England in the Test series opener at Headingley, Leeds, from June 20 before moving to Edgbaston, Birmingham, for the second Test from July 2.
The third Test will commence on July 10 at Lord's, London, and the fourth Test will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester from July 23 before the final Test match at The Oval, London, which will start on July 31.
Team India will be light on experience while facing Ben Stokes & Co. because of the absence of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin - all of whom have retired from Test cricket.
Ashwin had announced his retirement in the middle of the Border-Gavaskar in 2024-25, while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli dropped a double bombshell in May 2025.
However, India have still got the likes of KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja in the team, who bring a plethora of experience to the squad, which will be beneficial in the high-octane Test series.
They are not very experienced at the international level - Piyush Chawla

And speaking to the media after the event, he said that Team India will field an inexperienced line-up against England but expressed confidence in them delivering a good performance.
"They are not very experienced at the international level, but they have played a lot of cricket and know how to deal with the situations. Things will be better," he said as quoted by ANI.
On the engagement of Rinku Singh, Piyush Chawla said, "My best wishes to both of them."
Piyush Chawla retires from cricket
The 36-year-old just recently announced his retirement from professional cricket and shared a lengthy message on Instagram, thanking everyone who supported him in his journey.
He featured in three Test matches, 25 ODIs, and seven T20Is for the India National Cricket Team. However, he was out of the scheme of things for a very long time, and his last appearance for India came in 2012 at the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka.
Piyush Chawla went unsold in the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction, and his last appearance in professional cricket came in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2024-25.
