Shukri Conrad has been appointed as the head coach of South Africa's men's cricket teams across all formats, as confirmed by Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Friday. Conrad will coach the ODI and T20I teams as well until the ICC World Cup 2027, which will be hosted in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
Shukri Conrad, who has been with the Test team since January 2023, will now take over as the head coach for the ODI and T20I teams as well. Rob Walter resigned from his role as the white-ball coach in April. The South Africa national cricket team ended its experiment with the earlier split coaching structure.
The Greatest Privilege of My Cricket Journey - Shukri Conrad
Shukri Conrad shared his excitement and pride in becoming an all-format coach. He described his time coaching the Test team as the greatest privilege. Conrad is confident that the team has the potential to achieve something extraordinary.
"Coaching the Test side has been the greatest privilege of my cricket journey, and to now oversee the white-ball teams as well is something unbelievably special," Conrad was quoted as saying in a release.
"I'm genuinely excited about the prospects that lie ahead. South African cricket has incredible white-ball talent, from the calibre of our senior players to the emerging group of juniors aspiring to represent the Proteas. There's a strong foundation to build on, and I believe we have what it takes to achieve something special."

Shukri Conrad's Coaching Journey and Achievements
South Africa are gearing up for the World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord’s on June 11 before Shukri Conrad officially begins his role as all-format head coach. His first assignment in charge of all three formats will be a T20I tri-series against Zimbabwe and New Zealand in July.
Conrad’s coaching journey with Cricket South Africa began after Mark Boucher’s exit in 2022. Conrad applied for both red-ball and white-ball roles. He initially stepped in for Rob Walter in early 2023, overseeing a key series win against England that helped South Africa qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Shukri Conrad Has Laid a Solid Foundation - Enoch Nkwe
Enoch Nkwe, Cricket South Africa’s Director of National Teams and High Performance, said that Conrad has brought stability to the Test team. Nkwe expressed optimism that he will bring similar clarity to the white-ball formats.
“Shukri’s track record with the red-ball team speaks for itself. He has laid a solid foundation and instilled a strong identity within the Test environment. I’m excited to see him bring that same level of clarity, structure, and purpose to the white-ball formats,” said Nkwe.
“Having worked within the national setup for the past two years, he understands the demands of international cricket and has fostered valuable relationships with the players. We have every confidence he is the right person to guide the team forward and maintain our upward trajectory.”
