The 23-year-old Pakistan National Cricket Team opening batsman Abdullah Shafique smashed a spectacular double century in the second Test of the two-match series against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team to leave cricket fans on Twitter impressed.

Featuring in his 14th Test for Pakistan at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo, the opening batsman started off with an attacking brand of cricket. He smashed the Sri Lankan bowlers all over the park and completed his half-century off 49 deliveries, with 6 fours and 2 sixes.

His innings of 74 runs helped the visitors finish day 1 at the score of 145/2 in just 28.3 overs. Abdullah Shafique looked set to reach the century milestone on Day 2 itself, but the rain didn’t let that happen as most part of the day got washed out. At stumps, Pakistan were at 178/2 in 38.3 overs with Abdullah Shafique (87) and Babar Azam (28) at the crease.

On Day 3, Abdullah Shafique once again batted with a positive intent and he looked settled in the middle. He faced the Lankan bowlers with confidence and hit a marvelous century off 149 balls, with 11 fours and 2 sixes. The youngster showed great resilience to complete his 150 off 235 balls and then a remarkable maiden double century off 322 balls in the 109th over of the innings.

He was finally dismissed by Prabath Jayasuriya on the second ball of the 114th over as he tried to go for a big shot but ended up slicing it off the toe-end of his bat towards deep mid-off where Madushanka grabbed the catch.
