Sri Lanka’s captain Dimuth Karunaratne revealed that they had specific plans to tackle Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam during the two-match Test series. Dimuth Karunaratne expressed optimism that their strategies would be effective in keeping Babar Azam quiet.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan kicked off their campaigns in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle, with the first Test at the Galle International Stadium in Galle on Sunday, July 16. The Dimuth Karunaratne-led tam won the toss and opted to bat first in the series opener.

Babar Azam Is A Great Batsman – Dimuth Karunaratne

Speaking ahead of the first Test, Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne highlighted their strategy to put pressure on Babar Azam and limit his performance during the series.

“Everyone knows he [Babar] is a great batsman, and he was in the top-five rankings in all the formats. The thing is the way he batted [on last tour]; he knew how to head up the conditions and the wickets,” Karunaratne said.

“So we knew what we have to do against him. We have a few plans, and hopefully, we can restrict him in the first Test and in the second Test as well. We have some plans for him, hopefully, it works,” he added.
