SLC Officials Seek Rs 2 Billion In Damages From Arjuna Ranatunga For Alleged Loss Of Reputation

Arjuna Ranatunga, the former captain, will face the proper legal action as a result of his false and defamatory utterances, according to the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

The SLC declared in a statement that they have given Ranatunga, the recently appointed chairman of the National Sports Council, Letters of Demand (LOD) for Rs 2 billion.

Arjuna Ranatunga, a former MP, and captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team has been chosen to lead the National Sports Council, which comprises 15 members.
Roshan Ranasinghe, the minister of sports, chose on Wednesday, August 10.

The council’s members left after former Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa resigned from his ministerial position amid the nation’s political and economic crises. The council was formerly led by former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardena. The council had 14 members in the past.

Arjuna Ranatunga has spoken with malicious intent:

In a statement, the SLC said that after carefully considering Ranatunga’s “false, insulting and distorted comment” from a recent media interview, the SLC Executive Committee decided to file a lawsuit against the former World Cup-winning cricket captain at an emergency meeting on Monday.

According to the Statement, Ranatunga “has spoken with malicious intent, causing damage to the SLC’s goodwill and reputation, and has deliberately made public comments by making false and defamatory accusations against the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket.”

As a result, members of the Executive Committee have sent letters of demand to Arjuna Ranatunga, claiming Rs. 2 billion in damages for the loss of reputation caused by the false and derogatory statement made by Sri Lanka Cricket and its officials.
