Smriti Mandhana All But Confirms 'Cheating' Rumors With Her Recent Social Media Activity

Smriti Mandhana's life has lurched between triumph and turmoil in recent weeks. She was on top of the world after winning the World Cup last month, before crashing just as hard after her marriage had to be called off at the last moment.

The India cricket star was set to tie the knot with music composer Palash Muchhal on November 24. Three days before the wedding, Smriti Mandhana and Palash got officially engaged at the DY Patil Stadium, the same venue where she lifted the World Cup a couple of weeks ago.

The wedding function began on November 23 in Sangli, Smriti Mandhana's hometown with several of her teammates in attendance as close friends. A number of videos from the function were doing the rounds on social media, suggesting that everything was fine.

However, the wedding was postponed at the last moment as the batter's father had to be hospitalised due to a heart issue. Just hours later, Palash had to hospitalised as well, first in Sangli before he was shifted to Mumbai.

On December 7, Smriti Mandhana finally put an end to the saga by officially confirming that the wedding was cancelled. In a statement, she requested for privacy and stated that her focus now shifts to a 'higher calling' – representing her country in cricket.

When the wedding was postponed at the last moment, several rumours stated that Palash had cheated on Smriti Mandhana. Neither Mandhana nor Palash has delivered any statement regarding those rumours.

However, Mandhana's recent social media activity all but confirms that those rumours were true. Mandhana and Palash have unfollowed each other on Instagram. She has also deleted all the wedding and engagement-related pictures and videos, including her proposal video from her Instagram account.

Smriti Mandhana's statement:

On Sunday, Mandhana took to Instagram to release a statement on the wedding, stating: "Over the past few weeks there has been plenty of speculation around my life and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time. I am a very private person and I would like to keep it that way but I need to clarify that the wedding is called off. I would like to close this matter here and implore all of you to do the same. I request you to please respect the privacy of both families at this time and allow us the space to process and move on at our own pace.

"I believe there is a higher purpose driving us all and for me that has always been representing my country at the highest level. I hope to continue to play and win trophies for India for as long as possible and that is where my focus will forever be. Thank you for all your support. It's time to move forward," she added.
