Former India captain Sourav Ganguly will take on his first coaching role as the head coach of the Pretoria Capitals for the SA20 2025-26 season. Jonathan Trott Steps Down as Head Coach of Pretoria Capitals After One Season

Jonathan Trott stepped down as head coach of the Pretoria Capitals after a single season. The team managed just two wins in 10 group matches and failed to reach the knockouts. The franchise thanked him on social media for his leadership and dedication.

Pretoria Capitals confirmed the same on social media, saying, "Jonathan Trott, forever grateful for your leadership and unwavering dedication to the team. All the best on your next adventure! Once a Capital, always a Capital!"

Jonathan Trott, currently the head coach of Afghanistan, is expected to manage the team at the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka.

To avoid a scheduling clash with the World Cup, the 2026 edition of the SA20 has been postponed. The South Africa T20 tournament is now set to take place from December 26 to January 25.

Sourav Ganguly’s Stance on Joining Team India as Head Coach

Earlier, while speaking to news agency PTI, Sourav Ganguly revealed that he has never considered coaching Team India. However, he mentioned that he would be open to the opportunity in the future as part of his post-retirement journey.

"I never really thought about it because I got into different roles. I finished (competitive cricket) in 2013 and then became Board (BCCI) President. We’ll see what the future holds. I’m just 50 (53), so let’s see what happens. I’m open to it. We’ll see where it goes," Ganguly said.

Sourav Ganguly is one of India’s greatest captains. He played 113 Tests and 311 ODIs for India in his illustrious career. The left-handed batter scored over 18,000 runs in his international career. He also guided India to the 2003 World Cup final, where they lost to Australia.
