There are a few surprises on the list of state association delegates to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Annual General Meeting (AGM), both in terms of inclusions and exclusions. For the record, the surprise factor in this situation relates to the BCCI election regulation that states that only a representative of a state organisation may run for office.
The list of state association delegates to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Annual General Meeting (AGM) has a few surprises, both in terms of who is included and who is excluded.
Roger Binny’s Inclusion In Polls Surprising
For the record, the BCCI election law that stipulates that only a representative of a state organisation may run for office is what caused the most astonishment in this case.
The inclusion of Roger Binny‘s name on the list, also known as the Electoral Rolls, came as a great surprise. Santosh Menon, the secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), who had represented the KSCA at the AGM, is replaced by the former India all-rounder and selector.
It is unclear if the KSCA is aiming for a spot in the BCCI dispensation by presenting Binny’s name. According to BCCI rumours, Binny, the KSCA president, could actually get a job.
Sourav Ganguly Elected As Cricket Association Of Bengal’s Delegate To The AGM
Another name that isn’t there is Avishek Dalmiya, who was said to be applying for a BCCI role. It is now certain that the son of previous BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya would not serve on the board during the upcoming term after Sourav Ganguly was elected as the Cricket Association of Bengal’s (CAB) delegate to the AGM.
The regulation, which BCCI electoral officer AK Joti distributed, states:
“A Candidate’s Nomination should have been physically signed by a Proposer and Seconder, who shall each be a Representative of an eligible Full Member with all details as prescribed in the “Nomination Cum Affidavit Form” as Annexure II (Form A/ Form B/ Form C).”
Anirudh Chaudhry, the former BCCI treasurer who represents Haryana, Vaibhav Gehlot, the son of Rajasthan’s chief minister Ashok Gehlot, Mohammed Azharuddin from Hyderabad, and Jaydev Shah from Saurashtra are among the other names on the list. The representative for Vidarbha is Adwait Manohar, the son of former BCCI and ICC chief Shashank Manohar.
Both Rohan Jaitley, the son of the late Arun Jaitley, a former BCCI member and the nation’s former finance minister, and Pranav Amin, the son of former IPL chairman Chirayu Amin, are from Baroda. Jaitley Jr. is the Delhi District Cricket Association’s nominee (DDCA).
Ashish Shelar Chooses MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) Over BCCI
Gujarat is represented by Jay Shah, and the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association has selected Arun Singh Dhumal (HPCA). The nominee of the MCA is Ashish Shelar, who is expected to run for president of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
He was once believed to be competing for a post with the BCCI, but if he runs for the MCA role, he will be unable to hold a BCCI seat. He appears to have gone with the MCA.
Only 35 of the 38 state units have chosen their MPs as of Thursday (October 6), as Chandigarh, the Railways, and the Services asked the election commissioner for additional time.
According to the election schedule, nominations can be submitted on October 11 and 12, they must be reviewed on October 13, and withdrawals must be made on October 14. Naturally, the elections take place on October 18, which is also AGM day.
President, vice president, secretary, joint secretary, and treasurer are the five office-bearer positions that will be up for election, along with “one elective post of Member of the Apex Council under; Two (02) elective posts of Members of the Governing Council.” Actually, eight of the 35 representatives listed on the lists are eligible to be elected to other seats.
