While deciding whether to take a DRS review, Bumrah used the word “bauna,” a Hindi term commonly associated with dwarfism and often viewed as offensive when used casually to describe a short person. Many viewers felt the remark was a comment on Bavuma’s height.
The clip circulated rapidly on social media, drawing strong reactions and prompting widespread discussion. South Africa batting coach Ashwell Prince stated that they were made aware of the incident. Bumrah was later seen speaking with Bavuma on the field after the match.
Temba Bavuma He Has Got a Heart Like a Giant - Shukri Conrad
Following South Africa’s victory over Team India, Shukri Conrad responded to the stump-mic controversy with a light remark, saying Temba Bavuma has “the heart of a giant.”
“Thankfully, he has got a heart like a giant,” Conrad said at the post-match press conference, as quoted by NDTV.
Bavuma played a crucial role in turning the match South Africa’s way. He struck a half-century on Day 3 and added a 44-run partnership with Corbin Bosch. His unbeaten 55 was not only the only fifty of the entire Test, but also his first on Indian soil.
Bavuma helped South Africa reach 153 in their second innings, giving them a defendable total that proved enough to secure victory. The visiting team bowled out India for 93 runs to seal the win.
Fortunately Things Have Worked Out Quite Well - Temba Bavuma
Temba Bavuma lauded South Africa’s lower order for shifting the momentum in their favour. Bavuma said that the partnerships he shared with Corbin Bosch and Marco Jansen played a key role.
Bavuma admitted the conditions were tough for both teams, but South Africa handled them well and made the most of the scoring opportunities that came their way. He also credited the bowlers for pulling the team back into the contest.
“Fortunately things have worked out quite well. Our bowlers got us back into the game, but that partnership with Bosch and I think a little bit with Marco as well, at the end of the day, just gave a little bit of impetus that we could play a little bit better this morning. It wasn't as extreme, but we were able to get a partnership,” he added.
