Ahead of the ICC World Test Championship Final 2025 (WTC Final 2025), the South Africa National Cricket Team has roped in the legendary England pacer Stuart Broad as a special consultant to help them in their bid to crush the defending champions, Australia, at Lord’s.

This is officially Broad’s first real coaching job after he quickly moved into TV commentary right after retiring from international cricket in 2023, after the Ashes.

Broad, who has 604 wickets to his name in his decorated 167-Test career, is set to attend South Africa's training session at Lord’s on June 9, just two days before the high-voltage WTC Final 2025 on June 11 at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Broad tormented the Kangaroos across five Ashes series and claimed a record 153 wickets against England’s arch-rivals, which is the most by any bowler in Test history. The legendary Englishman will now help the South Africa National Cricket Team to plan Australia’s downfall.

However, Broad won't be in the Proteas dressing room during the WTC Final 2025 due to his broadcasting duties, as reported by The Telegraph UK. However, in the lead-up to the match, the former fast bowler will closely work with Proteas bowlers like Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, and Marco Jansen to help them understand the Lord’s pitch and plan their bowling strategies.

Proteas aim to make the most of Stuart Broad's Lord’s experience

The former England fast bowler, who is returning to Lord’s, where he scalped 113 wickets in 28 Tests at Lord’s—the second most wickets taken by a bowler at the venue after James Anderson—knows every blade of grass on the famous turf. And now, Broad’s wealth of experience and deep insights into Australia’s weaknesses will be Proteas' secret weapon in the WTC Final.

The Proteas side is already in England and gearing up to face Zimbabwe in a warm-up match against Zimbabwe at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground in Sussex on Tuesday, June 3. This game will help them to give the final touch to their preparations for the big game, as they are aiming to lift their first-ever ICC World Test Championship mace.

South Africa's journey to the WTC Final 2025

Meanwhile, South African side began their World Test Championship journey with a 1-1 draw against India at home, then faced a 2-0 defeat in New Zealand. But they bounced back in style, thrashing the West Indies 1-0, followed by 2-0 wins over both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

A close two-wicket win against Pakistan at Centurion sealed their spot in the WTC Final, and they went on to win that series 2-0, making it seven Test wins in a row and finishing as table toppers to make their first appearance in the final.
