The South Africa National Cricket Team has suffered another injury blow ahead of the three-match ODI series against the Australia National Cricket Team, starting on September 24 in Durban. Actually, Ottneil Baartman has suffered an injury while playing for the Dolphins during the first round of red-ball matches of the season.

Baartman’s injury has added to South Africa's woes, as the premier fast bowler Kagiso Rabada is already out with a hamstring injury. Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen also have some issues. The Proteas will now be hoping their key pacers are fit for the big matches ahead. Amid this, Chaminda Vaas joins the Delhi Capitals camp ahead of IPL 2027, set to replace Munaf Patel.

Ottoneil Baartman fitness scare puts South Africa on alert ahead of Australia ODIs

Ottoneil Baartman was playing for the Dolphins against the Titans, but the fast bowler bowled only five overs in the first innings. He did not return to bowl later in the match. The pacer also did not bat in the second innings, which has raised questions about his fitness.

The exact nature of his injury is still not known. An update on Baartman is expected on Sunday (September 13), and South Africa will be hoping there is nothing serious. If there is a serious issue, it would be a major blow to the hosts ahead of the crucial ODI series against Australia.

Kagiso Rabada already out, Lungi Ngidi adds to South Africa’s bowling concerns

Kagiso Rabada has already been ruled out of the Australia ODI series at home because of a hamstring problem. His availability for the test series will be decided right before the series.

On the other hand, Lungi Ngidi didn’t seem completely comfortable while bowling for Titans in the match against Dolphins. Ngidi bowled eight overs in the first innings and another 8.3 overs in the second innings before leaving the field.

He later returned to the field but did not bowl again. His fitness will also be watched closely, as there is still two weeks' time to attain full fitness for the Australia series. Amid this, Team India face timing change ahead of Asian Games 2026.

The young all-rounder Marco Jansen has also had a busy outing with the ball. He bowled 28 overs in the match and picked up seven wickets. With Rabada already injured and Baartman and Ngidi facing fitness concerns, South Africa will need to keep a close eye on Jansen's workload as well.

Ryan Rickelton, Temba Bavuma shine as South Africa find batting boost ahead of Australia ODIs

However, there is one big positive for the South Africa side before the ODI series against Australia at home. Actually, Ryan Rickelton scored his 19th first-class century for the Lions against Boland.

Temba Bavuma has also been sensational with the bat, as the captain scored 91 runs but managed only nine in the second innings. Apart from Bavuma and Rickelton, Kyle Verreynne and Tristan Stubbs have also made brilliant impact with the bat.

While Verreynne made 45, Stubbs scored 46 in the first innings and 11 in the second. Dane Paterson also made an impact with the ball, finishing with three wickets.

With several players facing fitness concerns, South Africa will now wait for the latest updates before making their plans for the ODI series against Australia.
