On Friday, November 21, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced the white-ball squads of the South Africa National Cricket Team for the upcoming series against the India National Cricket Team.
The South Africa National Cricket Team are currently involved in a two-match Test series against the India National Cricket Team, and they will next play an ODI and a T20I series against the Men In Blue.
Anrich Nortje makes T20I comeback as South Africa name squads
The Proteas won the Test series opener against India in Kolkata and would be aiming to replicate the same performance in the second game in Guwahati from November 22.
Following the conclusion of the Test series, the three-match ODI series will commence, which will be held across Ranchi, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam on November 30, December 3, and December 6.
South Africa's India tour will end with a high-octane five-match T20I series that will be played on December 9, 11, 14, 17, and 19 across five different venues.
Meanwhile, the Proteas have named full-strength squads for both series. Temba Bavuma will be leading the ODI team, while returning Aiden Markram will be captaining the T20I squad.
Along with Aiden Markram, paceman Anrich Nortje has also made his comeback to the T20I squad after a long time, while David Miller has also returned to the setup.
In the ODI squad, Rubin Hermann has retained his place, but Lhuan-dre Pretorius misses out on selection due to the presence of a lot of top-order batting options in the side.
We’re really looking forward to this white-ball tour for so many reasons - Shukri Conrad
In an official statement released by CSA, South Africa head coach Shukri Conrad said that they are looking forward to the white-ball series for many reasons, with the 50-over matches giving them an idea of how the squad would shape up for the 2027 World Cup. He elaborated:
“We’re really looking forward to this white-ball tour for so many reasons. The T20I series in particular is an important opportunity for us to finalise our squad ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup, which will also be played in India. Getting clarity on combinations and roles now is crucial as we build towards that tournament.
“Of course we’ll miss KG [Kagiso Rabada] on this tour, but as we saw in the first Test win over India, this group has depth and that is one of our primary goals as a squad; to develop a unit filled with players who can step up at any time.
"Every time someone is unavailable, it opens the door for another player to stand up. We want to see more players stand up as we have been seeing so often over the past couple of years.
“It's also really good to welcome Anrich back into the T20I side after he missed the previous tours through injury. We know exactly what he brings so we’re really looking forward to working with him.
“In the 50-over format, these matches will give us a clear picture of where we are as a group and what we need to keep building on as we shape the squad ahead of the 2027 World Cup.”
