Aiden Markram-led side faced a poor 3-0 whitewash against Australia in their previous T20I series at home in September 2023. Now, the skipper will aim for a better show against India. South Africa has a combination of youngsters and experienced members and will form a strong playing 11 vs India. Here we look at South Africa’s predicted playing 11 against India for IND vs SA 1st T20I.
South Africa Playing 11 vs India – 2023, 1st T20I
Reeza Hendricks might be the opener for South Africa for the opening T20I game against India. The right-handed batsman showed a marvelous form in the previous T20I series against Australia in August-September. With 101 runs in 3 games, he was the leading run-getter for the team in the series.
Since South Africa is short of openers in the squad, Matthew Breetzke might open the innings with Hendricks in SA vs IND 1st T20I. The right-handed batter has only played 1 T20I game for South Africa. He made his debut in the last T20I series against Australia where he scored 5 runs.
Aiden Markram (C)
Aiden Markram is the captain of South Africa for the T20I series against India. He will lead the team in the opening match. The right-handed batter showed good form in the ICC World Cup 2023 last month. He also gave a decent performance against Australia in the previous series, hitting 97 runs in 3 games at a strike rate of 142+.
Tristan Stubbs might be picked as a middle-order batter as Proteas are short of many senior members in the squad. In the previous series, Stubbs mustered 52 runs in 3 games. He has a good experience of 16 T20Is for Proteas so far. He has scored 225 runs in 12 innings with 1 fifty. He holds a good strike rate of 158+.
David Miller is one of the few experienced members of South Africa in the SA vs IND T20I series. Hence, he will be a crucial part of the playing XI. Miller played brilliant knocks in some games during the recent ICC World Cup 2023. Miller last played a T20I series against West Indies in March this year. He stormed 68 runs in the series at a 160+ strike rate and slammed an incredible knock of 48 in one match.
Heinrich Klaasen (WK)
Heinrich Klaasen might take up the role of wicketkeeper for South Africa against India. South Africa has many wicketkeepers in their squad but Heinrich Klaasen is the most experienced among them. The right-handed batter was also part of ICC World Cup 2023. He is an explosive batsman in the lower middle order.
Andile Phehlukwayo is back to the T20I side after a long time. He played a T20I match against England in July 2022. He might be picked as a pace all-rounder in the playing 11 as the team is short of senior players. The right-arm seamer has played 38 T20Is for South Africa and has hunted 45 scalps.
Marco Jansen might be another pace all-rounder for the team in 1st T20I vs India. Jansen gave an impressive performance in the recent ICC T20 World Cup 2023. The left-arm pacer also executed an excellent show against Australia in the previous series. He picked 8 wickets in 5 ODI matches and 1 scalp in the only T20I game he played.
Gerald Coetzee might be part of South Africa’s playing 11 after his stupendous show in the ICC World Cup 2023. The right-arm pacer hunted 20 scalps in the tournament to finish as the leading wicket-taker for the team.
South Africa is already short of key pacers. Since Coetzee owns a wonderful form currently, he should be picked for the opening game against India. The right-arm pacer has only played 3 T20I games in which he got 3 wickets.
Lizaad Williams might be another pacer for Proteas. He was part of the previous T20I series against Australia. He hunted 4 wickets in 3 games in the series averaging 21.25. After the ouster of Lungi Ngidi, Williams is a good option in the pace department.

Shamsi was also part of the ICC World Cup 2023 and the last T20I series against Australia. He played 2 games during the series and hunted 2 wickets at 10.41 economy. However, he has more experience than fellow spinner Keshav Maharaj.
