Tony de Zorzi has been given the No.4 slot in the playing XI, and he will be followed by the explosive batters Tristan Stubbs and Dewald Brevis at No.5 and No.6.

Wiaan Mulder and Corbin Bosch have been chosen as the two pace-bowling all-rounders, while Keshav Maharaj is the sole specialist spinner in the team.

Both Kagiso Rabada and Matthew Breetzke have been rested by the South Africa team management to manage their workload, as the duo have slight niggles.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has also named the England playing XI for the ODI series opener against the Proteas.

They have included the 22-year-old Hampshire fast bowler Sonny Baker in the line-up, and he will make his international debut in Leeds.

Sonny Baker has only featured in 11 List A games, but he impressed the selectors with his performance in The Hundred 2025 for Manchester Originals, where he bagged nine wickets, including a hat-trick, in seven games.

Talking about him, the England skipper Harry Brook said that the pacer was awesome in The Hundred while bowling against the top-quality batters.

"He's been awesome in the Hundred. We've seen him bowl at some of the best batters in the world and he had them on toast, so it's been really good to see. He bowls at a high pace, and he can swing it both ways with exceptional death skills as well. To have him in the team and for him to be opening up tomorrow is awesome. I think there's quite a lot of people excited to see where he goes.

"There have been a few moments. The spells he bowled to Williamson and Warner and then Smith and Bairstow, all four are world-class batters in the shorter format and he was all over them. He bowled with high pace and high skill. He was awesome to watch this year and everyone was talking about him," he said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
