Abhishek Sharma (12) started aggressively for the Sunrisers Hyderabad with the bat but couldn’t carry on as he perished in the first over. Travis Head (34) and Rahul Tripathi (37) rejuvenated the team’s innings after an early wicket.
Head-Tripathi duo added 42 runs for the second wicket but after their partnership Rajasthan Royals bowlers pulled back the things incredibly well and put Sunrisers Hyderabad under immense pressure, leaving them tottering at 120 for six.
Heinrich Klaasen (50) struck a valiant half-century to get his team back in the game. His solid hand with the bat powered Sunrisers Hyderabad to a total of 175 for nine at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
For Rajasthan Royals, Avesh Khan was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of three for 27. Trent Boult also picked three wickets while Sandeep Sharam bagged two scalps.
In the chase, Yashasvi Jaiswal (42) took Rajasthan off to a brutal start even though Tom Kohler-Cadmore (10) struggled to get going at the other end at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
But after the wicket of Jaiswal, nothing went in their favor as they kept losing wickets in quick succession of time. Skipper Sanju Samson (10) also perished early as the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers were all over the batters.
Keeper-batter Dhruv Jurel (56) kept his team in the hunt with his valiant half-century as Hyderabad restricted the opposition to 139/7 to win the game by 36 runs and advance to the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Shahbaz Ahmed and Abhishek Sharma combined to pick 5 wickets.
