Sri Lanka Batsman Kusal Perera Doubtful For Limited-Overs Series Against India: Reports

Former Sri Lanka captain Kusal Perera, who recently led the team on the tour of England, may not play in the upcoming white-ball series against India due to a severe shoulder injury. India and Sri Lanka are scheduled to clash in a series of three one-day internationals and three T20I matches from July 18 onwards.

Perera had the ignominy of captaining the Sri Lankan team on a horrible tour of England, where they were whitewashed in the T20I series and lost two out of three one-day internationals and were only saved by the rain in the third match, as they were bowled out for a below-par score. Perera was hence removed from captaincy due to this poor team performance.

According to sources Kusal Perera has also been officially informed that he will not captain the side in the ODI and T20I series.

It’s Not Looking Good For Kusal Perera: SLC Official

Kusal Perera was not in form with the bat as well, scoring 54 runs in 3 T20I matches with a best of 30 runs and in the three ODIs, he made 82 runs with a best of 73. Perera was also removed from captaincy partly due to the role he played in the Sri Lankan players’ mutiny over central contracts and refusal to sign them before flying to England.

Meanwhile, it has been reported by the newswire.lk website that Kusal Perera has also injured his shoulder during the ODI series against England. Unfortunately, he kept playing despite the pain as there was no proper replacement in the squad available. This seemingly worsened his injury and now it is a possibility that he might not play in the India series.

“Medical staff have given an injection to him so he didn’t practice with the team yesterday and today. We have to take a call tomorrow, but it’s not looking good,” an SLC official told NewsWire.

Kusal Perera’s unavailability will further weaken Sri Lanka’s batting unit with only Dhananjaya de Silva now available as a senior batsman in the squad. Sri Lanka is already missing Dhanushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, and Niroshan Dickwella, who have been suspended for breaching the bio-bubble in England after they were found roaming outside the team hotel in Durham.
