Sri Lanka ODI, T20I squads for Pakistan tour announced; Matheesha Pathirana ruled out

On Friday, November 7, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced the white-ball squads for the upcoming tour of Pakistan, which will see the Lankan Lions take part in an ODI series and a T20I tri-nation series.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) selection committee has picked strong squads for the tour, but there have been some big names who have missed out on selection due to their respective fitness issues.

Sri Lanka to leave for Pakistan on November 8

The Sri Lanka tour of Pakistan 2025 will start with a three-match ODI series between the two teams. All the matches of the series will be hosted by Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on November 11, 13, and 15.

After that, the tri-nation series will start, where the Lankan Lions will play their first match against Zimbabwe on November 19 and their second match against Pakistan on November 22. They will play more matches against the same teams and would qualify for the final if they perform well.

Also, in an official statement released by SLC, it was revealed that the players will be leaving for Pakistan on November 8.

"The Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee has selected the following squads to take part in the Sri Lanka Tour of Pakistan 2025. The team will take part in an ODI series and a T20 tri-series featuring Pakistan and Zimbabwe during the tour. The national team is scheduled to depart for Pakistan on November 8, 2025," SLC said.

Matheesha Pathirana ruled out of the Pakistan tour

Charith Asalanka will be leading the strong squads on the Pakistan tour, but will be missing the services of a couple of key fast bowlers.

In the ODI squad, the selection committee wanted to have Dilshan Madushanka for the upcoming series, but he was declared unfit. Notably, the pacer is currently recovering from his knee injury, and to deal with his absence, the selection committee has named Eshan Malinga in the squad.

In another major blow, the star right-arm quick Matheesha Pathirana has been ruled out of the T20I series. He will be missing the matches because he has not fully recovered from the Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) he recently suffered.

SLC selection committee has named Asitha Fernando as the replacement for Matheesha Pathirana in the T20I squad, which also consists of Dushmantha Chameera, Nuwan Thushara, Asitha Fernando, and Eshan Malinga.

Meanwhile, in the ODI squad, Lahiru Udara, Kamil Mishara, Wanindu Hasaranga and Pramod Madushan have replaced Nuwanidu Fernando, Milan Priyanath Rathnayake, Nishan Madushka and Dunith Wellalage.

And in the T20I squad, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Janith Liyanage, Dushan Hemantha, and Eshan Malinga have replaced Nuwanidu Fernando, Dunith Wellalage, Chamika Karunaratne, and Binura Fernando.

"ODIs: Dilshan Madushanka was included in the ODI squad but will not tour as he is recovering from a knee injury. Eshan Malinga has been named as his replacement," SLC stated.

"T20Is: Matheesha Pathirana was included in the T20I squad but will not tour as he is recovering from an Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) he recently suffered. Asitha Fernando has been named as his replacement in the squad," SLC added.
