Sri Lanka Playing 11 vs Bangladesh- Asia Cup 2025, Super 4 Match 1
Openers: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wk)
Sri Lanka would eye back-to-back wins against Bangladesh in the T20I format of the game after losing the previous series to them at home.
The Charith Asalanka-led side registered a thumping win over Bangladesh when the two sides met earlier in the Asia Cup 2025, and would want to replicate the same performance in the upcoming game.
Sri Lanka looks like a complete unit with all its boxes ticked and players being in form in both departments of the game, which makes them favorites to win the game.
Having said that, the team management would like to make sure that players are not complacent heading into the match, given that the former Asia Cup winners are yet to lose a match in this year's tournament
Sri Lanka will have to make one change, with Dunith Welalage unlikely to play in the match against Bangladesh, as he has returned home due to his father's demise.
Maheesh Theekshana is expected to replace Theekshana with the rest of he playing XI remaining unchanged.
Sri Lanka will open the innings with Pathu, Nissanka, and Kusal Mendis, both of whom are in good form.
Although Nissanka missed out on a big score in the previous match, he has been the backbone of the team's batting in the recent past.
Nissanka has been given good company by Kusal Mendis, who scored a match-winning half-century in the previous match against Afghanistan and would want to keep up the good work.
Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Kamil Mishara, Kusal Perera, Kamindu Mendis, Charith Asalanka (c), Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga
The opening pair will be followed by a middle order, which has also done its job on most of the occasions in the competition, barring the match against Hong Kong, where Sri Lanka made things difficult for themselves.
The likes of Kamil Mishara, who has been a shaky sarter, experienced Kusal Perera, who took a couple of outstanding catches in the last match, and captain Charith Asalanka have also put their hand up when required.
Sri Lanka has a deep batting lineup, which can come in handy in the next match and in the matches the team is scheduled to play against Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Along with depth in the batting lineup, Lanka also has at least seven bowling options, including three in the top seven, which allows the captain to be flexible according to the conditions and situation of the game.
Bowlers: Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Nuwan Thushara
Lanka would once again want their bowlers to restrict the opposition to a below-par total like they did for the major part of the team's bowling innings against Afghanistan till the last over, which yielded 32 runs.
Nuwan Thushara, who was the pick of the bowlers with a four-wicket haul, would look to pick wickets with the new ball and in the final five overs against Bangladesh as well.
The spin duo of Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana will also be entrusted to do their job of picking wickets and stemming the flow of runs in the middle overs, along with Dasun Shanaka and Charith Asalankan, who will act as the fifth bowling option.
The only concern for Lanka would be the form of Dushmantha Chameera, who was expensive in the previous match and would look to make a strong comeback.
