Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, and Pathum Nissanka are out of the India vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test match in Colombo
The Sri Lanka National Cricket Team is dealing with multiple injuries. Ahead of the series, the cricket board informed that due to injury and fitness-related issues, Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka were not eligible to play the first match.
Without the services of the top two batters, the hosts went down against the Indian cricket team. Most of the Lankan batting unit struggled against the Indian quality spinners, especially against Manav Suthar, who took 10 wickets in the match.
Sri Lanka cricket team head coach Gary Kirsten provided the latest updates on Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka, and Dinesh Chandimal
After losing the first match, the cricket team of the island nation is on the verge of a whitewash. Neither team in the world will want to be whitewashed on their very own land. To counter the Indian quality bowling, the hosts need the best set of their players. But unfortunately for them, Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka remained on the sidelines with Dinesh Chandimal.
"Kusal Mendis has got a proper hamstring injury. He's not going to be available for a while. Pathum Nissanka as well and Dinesh (Chandimal) are also not available for the next Test," head coach Gary Kirsten informed the reporters a day before the squad announcement.
"So, we're missing a few guys from that perspective, ve but it creates a great opportunity for young players to come in and stake their claim. In fact, players that have got really good first-class records in this country. So it's a good opportunity for them," he added.
