In a heartening development, the rain gods have relented in Colombo and the third ODI between India and Sri Lanka will resume at 6:30 PM (IST and local time), the BCCI Twitter handle confirmed.

With over 30 minutes of play lost due to rain, the game has now been reduced to 47-overs per side.

Suryakumar Yadav and Manish Pandey will resume the innings for India at the score of 3/147 after 23 overs.

Earlier, stand-in captain Shikhar Dhawan won the toss for the first time in the series and he had no hesitation in opting to bat first.

Shikhar Dhawan got India off to a blazing start by smashing off-spinner Dhananjaya de Silva for three fours in the 2nd over.

However, a loose drive outside the off-stump brought about Dhawan’s downfall courtesy of Dushmanta Chameera in the very next over.

Prithvi Shaw and debutant Sanju Samson then L0proceeded to enthrall the Indian fans with exquisite stroke play for the next 13 overs.

The swashbuckling duo racked up 74 runs for the 2nd wicket before Shaw (49) once again fell against the run-of-play as he got trapped in front in an attempt to flick the ball on the on-side.

Sanju Samson (46) once against flattered to deceive as he uppishly chipped Jayawickrama to the cover-region, to squander yet another promising start.

Suryakumar Yadav survived an LBW scare off Jayawickrama on the first ball of the 23rd over when he missed an attempted slog sweep.

He was given out by the on-field umpire but the Mumbai batter successfully challenged the review as the ball-tracking after a hiatus, confirmed that the impact would have been outside the off-stump.

The duo will now look to consolidate the Indian innings and take the visitors to a competitive total.
