Sri Lanka vs India Tour Rescheduled After A Flurry Of COVID-19 Cases In The Sri Lankan Camp.

The COVID-19 outbreak doesn’t seem to be helping the world of cricket by any means. After a dead and stagnant period of global cricketing action, the stage was set for a lot of games to take place in the coming months.  For the Indian team, the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka was the starting point of a giant cricketing season.

However, now, due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the Sri Lankan camp, the ODI and T20I series between Sri Lanka and India is all set to be rescheduled. The tour comprised of 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is. The ODI series was all slated to take place from July 13 and the T20I series was staged to be played from July 21. All six games were supposed to take place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Sri Lanka vs India Series Rescheduled After COVID-19 Cases In The Sri Lankan Camp

The entire Sri Lankan team was already in isolation after returning from a humiliating England tour. Neither the Lankan players performed on the field nor did their actions off the field speak about the rich cricketing culture that the country has portrayed over the years. On Thursday, Sri Lankan batting coach Grant Flower tested positive for COVID-19.

Now, on Friday, the Lankan team’s data analyst, GT Niroshan, has tested positive for COVID-19. After seeing a flurry of cases in the camp, it has been decided that the limited-overs tour will now be rescheduled. According to reports, the series was scheduled to begin with the ODI leg, on July 13. but is now likely to begin only on July 17. According to the new schedule proposal, the second and third ODI will take place on July 19 and 21 respectively. The T20I series is likely to begin from July 24.

Indian Team Involved In A Couple Of Intra-Squad Practice Games

The India National Cricket Team has been in Sri Lanka for the last 10 days. After finishing their isolation, the Indian players have been sweating it hard on the field. The Men in Blue were involved in a couple of intra-squad practice matches between Dhawan XI and Bhuvneshwar XI.

Manish Pandey, Suryakumar Yadav, Devdutt Padikkal,  Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, and Ruturaj Gaikwad have so far been the show-stoppers in the intra-squad games. Meanwhile, the senior national team in England and is enjoying its vacation in the United Kingdom (UK), ahead of a five-match Test series against the hosts in the month of August.
