The three-match ODI series between Sri Lanka women and South Africa women will also be part of the ICC Women’s Championship. The island nation has been terrific in the white-ball cricket of late and have achieved some incredible things, outclassing big teams.
Sri Lanka Cricket achieved huge success in 2023 defeating New Zealand in the three-match ODI series at home by the margin of 2-1. This was the first time they defeated New Zealand in history. If this was not enough, they then went on to beat England in England in a three-match T20I series by 2-1.
One of the key performers for Sri Lanka in their success has been their skipper Chamari Athapaththu. In the 8 ODIs in 2023, she mustered 415 runs at a stellar average of 69.16. The captain also smashed two centuries and a half-centurys in the games that she played.
Chamari Athapaththu was the sixth leading run-getter in ODIs in 2023. What was impressive was the strike rate she had in the games. The skipper recorded a strike rate of 125.37, which was more than anyone among the top 10 leading run-scorers in 2023. She would be extremely crucial for the team in the upcoming South Africa tour.
