Following their T20 Asia Cup 2024 triumph, the Sri Lanka women's cricket team will tour Ireland for a white-ball series, comprising T20I matches and ODI matches next month. The Sri Lanka women's cricket team will play two T20I matches and three ODI matches against the Ireland women's cricket team.
The Sri Lanka women's cricket team will depart for Ireland on August 6, 2024. This will be the Sri Lanka women's cricket team's first bilateral tour of Ireland. The Ireland women's cricket team will play their third bilateral series of the year after facing Zimbabwe and Thailand in Zimbabwe and the UAE, respectively.
Ireland have not lost a bilateral series this year, but their upcoming series against Sri Lanka will be more challenging. The Sri Lanka cricket team has won 18 of their 23 white-ball matches in 2024. They boast a perfect record against Ireland, winning all three ODIs and three T20Is they've played against them.
Sri Lanka and Ireland will meet for the first time since the 2017 Women's ODI World Cup Qualifier, where Sri Lanka registered a comprehensive victory. They were scheduled to play each other in the 2021 ODI World Cup Qualifier, but the game was canceled due to travel restrictions from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sri Lanka Women's Team To Tour Ireland In August 2024
On August 1, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) issued an official statement that the Sri Lanka Women’s Team will tour Ireland in August 2024. The board confirmed that the team will depart for Ireland on Tuesday, August 6.
"Sri Lanka Women’s Team will tour Ireland during August 2024 for a white ball tour consisting of two T20i games and three ODIs. The Asian Champions will leave for the tour on the 6th of August 2024. The ODIs are part of the ICC Women’s Championship cycle of 2022 to 2025," the statement said.
Sri Lanka, placed at no. 7 in the ICC Women's T20I Team Rankings, will play a two-match T20I series against 10th-ranked Ireland. This series will provide essential preparation for Sri Lanka ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The two women's teams will play three ODI matches after the T20I matches.
The tour will start with the first T20I match in Dublin on August 11, followed by the second match at the same venue on August 13.
