Australian batting superstar Steve Smith has made his way to Pakistan after being completely ignored by the IPL teams for the ongoing season. However, Steve Smith is already making a big impact in his debut season in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Smith joined the PSL as the most expensive player this season with a massive $500,000 deal, and so far, he is living up to that tag. The Australian star is leading Multan Sultans from the front with confidence and class in the ongoing PSL 2026.

Smith himself has been playing in an attacking brand of cricket at the top of the order. In five matches, the former Australian captain has scored 144 runs at a strike rate of over 150.
Ahead of Multan Sultans' next PSL 2026 match against Peshawar Zalmi on April 13, Smith shared his first experience in the PSL, saying it’s been fabulous so far. The captain also shared that building a strong team environment is the key in short tournaments like the PSL.
It's been fabulous: Smith on his first-ever PSL experience
The seasoned batter has explained that it is not about changing skills in a few weeks but about creating a positive environment, where players can enjoy and perform together.
Steve Smith said at an event in a Multan Sultans video, "It's been fabulous so far. That's my first time experiencing the PSL. We have played some honestly really good cricket so far, and we're sitting in a good place. I think the environment's really important when you come to a franchise or any franchise around the world."

"But it's coming together for six weeks. You can't change skills too much. You need to create an environment where everyone can enjoy and perform together as a unit."
Steve Smith credits team effort for Multan Sultans’ strong run in PSL 2026
One of the biggest strengths of Multan this season has been teamwork, as Smith has pointed out that different players have stepped up in those five matches, which has helped the team stay consistent and strong so far in the ongoing PSL 2026.
The captain further noted, “We’re fortunate to have a really skilled group, and everyone's chipping in at different times throughout the tournament so far. So, I think when you win a franchise tournament, you need to be playing your best cricket at the back end come the finals. And I think we're building up really nicely towards that. But yeah, it's been great fun so far. It's been nice to come here to Pakistan.”
Steve Smith targets Olympics 2028, uses PSL to prove himself
The right-handed batter said that he is looking forward to the rest of the PSL 2026 season over the next couple of weeks, as he will have the opportunity to play some T20 games to prove himself, as he is aiming to play in the Olympics 2028. One of his biggest targets is to represent Australia in the Olympics, and he has been working on improving his power-hitting and fitness.
Smith is well aware of the fact that modern T20 cricket demands strength and big hitting, so he is putting in the effort to match that level. He is also using his experience smartly, mixing power with skill and finding gaps in the field, especially during the power play, as power hitters are the most successful ones in this modern era.
Smith signed off by saying, “My motivation is actually to play in the Olympics. I ticked off playing World Cups, winning World Cups, the Ashes, and all those kinds of things. And then the Olympics came up, and I was like, "That would be something to be really—it'd be really cool to be involved in." I think that's my huge motivation: to be part of the Olympic team in 2028.”
