Rohit Sharma has been receiving praise from all over for his captaincy for the way he led Team India in the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2023. His tactics and selfless batting drew praise from all over as Team India displayed a brilliant brand of cricket throughout the tournament before suffering a heartbreaking defeat against Australia in the final.

India won all of their nine games with utmost ease before thrashing New Zealand by 70 runs in the semifinal to storm into the final. They were the only unbeaten side in the tournament before the final. Before the World Cup, Rohit Sharma had also led the team to glory in the Asia Cup and the final of the ICC World Test Championship.

With the star batsman impressing as a captain, former India pacer S Sreesanth has compared him with none other than the legendary MS Dhoni, India’s most decorated captain of all time. The World Cup-winning former pacer hailed Rohit Sharma as a street-smart cricketer before going on to draw a comparison between him and Dhoni.

“He’s (Rohit) a street-smart cricketer and he’s somebody more like Dhoni bhai who doesn’t just get off the scene straight away,” Sreesanth told Firstpost.

“Even if the bowling’s not that great, even if the fielding’s not that great he makes sure he backs up the fielders, he backs up the fielders. It’s a great trend. Even in the World Cup, the players who were not playing he was going to them asking for suggestions.”

“Yes he’s the captain but he’s been there as their brother and been there as their best friend. So it’s very important. So I think that’s one of the best qualities a captain can have,” Sreesanth added.

Rohit Sharma to return to action soon:

Rohit Sharma has not played any competitive match since the final of the World Cup last month. He will be seen in action soon during the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa. Before the Tests, India will play three T20Is and as many ODIs against the Proteas but Rohit Sharma has been rested for both series.
