Stuart Broad Named England's Vice-Captain For The Test Series Against New Zealand

Veteran England seamer Stuart Broad has been named as skipper Joe Root’s deputy for the two-match Test series against New Zealand.
Ben Stokes is the regular vice-captain of the England team but the Durham all-rounder is unavailable for the Test rubber against New Zealand due to a finger injury.
Stokes was the regular vice-captain in 2017 until he lost the post following his brawl outside Bristol nightclub in the lead-up to the Ashes series Down Under.
However, two years later, Stokes regained the post by replacing Jos Buttler following his heroics in the 2019 World Cup.
Broad, who will be serving as Joe Root’s in the two-match series against the Kiwis, had downplayed the role of vice-captain in cricket after Ben Stokes was removed from the position in 2017.
*I don’t see the vice-captaincy as particularly important in cricket really. You have an amount of senior players who always have an input and you want to open everything to the whole group,” Stuart Broad had said as quoted by ‘The Cricketer’
“In cricket, the vice-captain literally takes over if the captain runs off the field and needs the toilet or something. The captain could run off and just say someone take over for an over.” he added.
Meanwhile, the Test series between England and New Zealand will get underway at the ‘Home of Cricket’ Lord’s on Wednesday, June 02.
The second Test will be played at Edgbaston between June 10-14.
