Legendary England National Cricket Team pacer Stuart Broad has revealed how India National Cricket Team captain Shubman Gill awakened a monster in Ben Stokes at Lord's.
Stuart Broad claimed that Shubman Gill made a huge mistake by fighting with Zak Crawley, as it fired up England captain Ben Stokes in the third Test match.
Shubman Gill vs Zak Crawley heats up the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
The first two matches of the ongoing five-match Test series between India and England were thrilling, but there were no heated spats between the players.
That changed on Day 3 of the third Test match at Lord's in London in the last 10 minutes of the play. As Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett arrived in the middle during the end stages of play, they employed time-wasting tactics to ensure that India could only bowl one over.
Seeing this, India Test captain Shubman Gill was furious and he was seen telling Zak Crawley to "grow some f***ing balls" after he twice pulled out while Jasprit Bumrah was running into bowl the first over.
Two balls later, Zak Crawley was struck on the glove by Jasprit Bumrah and called the physio for treatment. This prompted several Indian fielders to walk towards him while clapping sarcastically. Both Gill and Crawley pointed fingers at one another in a heated exchange, and the Indian captain even made the 'impact player' gesture to mock the English opener.
I've seen this England team this verbal and all over - Stuart Broad
Speaking on Sky Sports, Stuart Broad talked about how Ben Stokes has led England in the field in the third Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
Broad stated that Ben Stokes was fired up after seeing the Indian players targeting Zak Crawley and decided to give it back with verbal assaults like has has never seen before.
"Hugely competitive character, raises his game for pressure scenarios, big scenarios. What would have fired him up in this game was the Indian team targeting Zak Crawley in that one over. We've talked about that," Stuart Broad said.
"It was great fun. It was brilliant to watch. But he wouldn't have liked the fact that one of his players was out there on his own or with Ben Duckett with the team going at him.
"And you can see that. I've never seen, I can't remember the last time I've seen this England team this verbal and all over. Archer, bowler, bouncer to ready, duck, bang."
At the time of writing, Ben Stokes has three wickets to his name in the last innings and India are struggling at 154/9 while chasing 193.
It's all that sort of mental energy that he's driving towards the Indian batters - Stuart Broad
Stuart Broad further said that Stokes led England from the front on Day 5 and sledged Indian batters to put them under pressure. He stated:
"Everyone's around him, letting him know that he's here and he's under pressure. And that was ignited that last over of day three. And it's brought a lovely edge to it.
"And Stokes is leading that. Stokes is bowling and chatting and saying, come on, you're under pressure. We can see you. Come play a drive. It's all that sort of mental energy that he's driving towards the Indian batters, trying to change their mindset, trying to put them off. And his team are following with him.
"And yeah, it's been a pretty awesome day and a bit, hasn't it? Let's be honest, the first three days were a little bit dull, but a day and a bit slower."
'I can't remember the last time England were this fired up!' 🔥
