In a latest revelation, Chris Board, father of former English paceman Stuart Broad, has revealed that he made fun of his son during Christmas with a Yuvraj Singh-signed jersey, which the English great threw in the bin out of sheer frustration.

Yuvraj Singh's iconic six sixes in the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 have been recited as a fairytale for 18 years in the game of cricket, but it had been a nightmare for the legendary English pacer.

However, eventually the youngster Stuart Broad went on to have a very successful career, which ended recently in July 2023. He went on to win the T20 World Cup later for England in 2010 and finished his career as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in Test history. Broad had 602 wickets, the second-most by a pacer after England teammate James Anderson's 704 wickets.

Stuart Broad was humiliated by his father with a Christmas present

Speaking recently with The Telegraph, Chris Broad revealed that after the match got over, he got Yuvraj Singh to sign an Indian jersey, which he later gave to his son as a Christmas present, but to his disappointment, Stuart Broad tossed it straight into the bin once he saw what it was.

“He didn’t appreciate my gesture after he was hit for six sixes by Yuvraj Singh. I got Yuvraj to sign an Indian shirt and gave it to him for Christmas. Apparently, he opened the present, saw it, and threw it in the bin. I think he had a bit of a sense of humour failure over that," he said.

Yuvraj Singh revealed his motivational message for the England pacer

Almost half a decade ago, on The Doosra podcast, Yuvraj had opened up about that Jersey, saying that Chris Broad, who was the match referee for the game, as he approached him a day after he had hit his son for six sixes.

He said to the Indian star, "You almost finished my son’s career; now you have to sign this shirt for him.”

The Indian legend wrote a heartfelt message on the Jersey for Broad, “I remember giving my India jersey and writing a message that said, ‘I have been hit for five sixes in an over, and I know how it feels. To the future of England cricket, all the best.’ It was just some fun banter with Chris Broad at the time.”

Stuart Broad opened up on the 6-sixes incident following his retirement from international cricket

Following his retirement from the Ashes 2023 at The Oval, Stuart Broad recalled that Yuvraj Singh's six sixes were a career-changing moment in his career, as it taught him the importance of focus and helped him build a mental routine and shaped him as a pacer.

“Yeah, it was obviously a pretty tough day, what would I have been, 21, 22? I learnt a lot, I pretty much based a whole mental routine through that experience, knowing that I was left very short as an international performer. I’d rushed my preparation; I didn’t have any pre-ball routine, I didn’t have any focus. I started building my 'warrior mode’ that I call it after that experience," said Stuart Broad.
