Stuart MacGill, a former Australian Test cricketer, and a companion are said to have threatened a Sydney bar owner earlier this year.

In the Sydney central business district’s Kemp Street and subsequently at the Captain Cook Hotel around six of the clock on February 1 of this year, MacGill, 51, is charged with stalking and verbally intimidating Samantha Ford.

Ryan Entwistle testified Thursday in the Downing Centre Local Court that he saw the Kemp Street event while out drinking with pals in front of the Lord Nelson Hotel.

The 19-year-old described the conversation as one-sided and relatively loud, but he did not hear any actual words spoken, other than “stick up you’re a—.”

“They were speaking to her in an aggressive and threatening manner,” he explained.

According to Tony Ryder, a witness at the Captain Cook Hotel, MacGill appeared to enter the pub intoxicated. When Ms. Ford arrived, the former cricketer lent over and screamed at her, he claimed.

“She just looked very scared, clutching her dog,” he told a judge. Mr Ryder could not recall which words were used, but he described the incident as “a bit of a mess.”

Stuart MacGill claimed that he never intimidated Ms Ford:

MacGill stated that he never used intimidation against Ms Ford, claiming that she followed them along the road and would not go away. She followed them into the Captain Cook Hotel, but they kindly asked her to leave, according to what was reported to the authorities.

MacGill can be seen pointing his finger at Ms Ford and leaning toward her in the surveillance video taken inside the bar. As the argument went on, the former spin bowler also dialled 911.

MacGill stated during his police interview that he had no desire to be anywhere near Ms Ford.

“I have nothing to say to the woman at all, I assure you. I do not think there is any reason why I would want to be in the same room with her, hence I have no desire in doing so.”

On Thursday as well, the court learned that Mr Kerlin had entered a plea to two counts of stalking, intimidation, and violating an AVO. On August 24, he will return for sentencing. Magistrate Christine Haskett’s hearing is still ongoing.
