Peshawar Zalmi emerged as the winner of the PSL 2026 season under the leadership of Babar Azam. While Babar himself was at the helm of the run-scorer’s list in the season, Sufiyan Muqeem was in a clutch form, taking 22 wickets in 11 matches for an economy rate of 7.20.
Players of perfrom good in domestic leagues often gain the opportunity to represent the national team. Sufiyan Muqeem also thought that after finishing the PSL 2026 season as the most successful bowler. Shockingly, the selection panel of PCB formed the squad without the quality spinner.

Sufiyan Muqeem's emergence was meteoric
A few years back, Sufiyan Muqeem was considered one of the most talented spinners in the world. For the first time, he grabbed the headlines during the 2023 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. In the final, against the arch-rival India, the spinner clinched 3 wickets for 66 runs only to help Pakistan ‘A’ team defeat the ‘A’ team of India.
After the stunning bowling figures, the national team selectors did not delay in putting Muqeem into the senior team. He made his T20I debut for the Pakistan National Cricket Team against Hong Kong at the Asian Games in October 2023.
When everything was looking well settled for Maqueem, an injury slowed down his momentum. It was a first instance since his emergence in the highest level of the game, when he had to sit outside the ground. He missed almost the entire first half of 2024 as he had to undergo serious knee surgery.
In 2024, he made his return in style and received an ODI debut cap as well. But, suddenly, he started to lose his flair and became irregular in the national cricket team.
