Legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar remains a major figure in the sport nearly four decades after retiring from international cricket. Sunil Gavaskar's popularity continues to grow as he travels the world for commentary assignments, and one fan moment took place before the fourth T20I between India and England.

Gavaskar was the first player to surpass 10,000 runs in Test cricket. Over his 16-year career, he scored 10,122 runs in 125 Tests at an impressive average of 51.22, including 34 centuries and 45 half-centuries. He was later overtaken by Sachin Tendulkar, who set a new record with 15,921 runs in 200 Tests.

Sunil Gavaskar Refuses Policeman's Photo Request

According to Mid-Day, Sunil Gavaskar had a humorous encounter with police personnel near the commentators' box ahead of the fourth T20I at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. A policeman asked for a photo, to which the cricketer-turned-commentator initially replied in one word, “No.”

“Sir, can I take a photo with you?” one policeman asked Gavaskar.

However, he changed the mood by saying, “You cannot take just one photo. You can take two or three photos with me, and not one. What will you do with just one photo?” His response brought smiles to the officers, and many joined in to take multiple pictures, all of which Gavaskar graciously allowed.

Gavaskar was part of India's historic 1983 World Cup win, where they defeated the dominant West Indies in the final. The former batter also had a prolific first-class career. He scored a remarkable 25,834 runs in 348 matches at an impressive average of 51.46, including 81 centuries and 105 half-centuries.

Fourth T20I in Pune Sparked Controversy Over Concussion Substitute Rule

The fourth T20I in Pune sparked controversy over the concussion substitute rule. India, leading 2-1 in the series, replaced batting all-rounder Shivam Dube with pacer Harshit Rana after Dube was hit on the helmet by a short delivery from Jamie Overton. Dube had scored a vital half-century before the injury.

Harshit Rana then took 3/33 in four overs, helping the India national cricket team seal a 15-run victory and win the series. This move led to criticism from former England players and captain Jos Buttler, with questions raised about the replacement of an all-rounder with a pacer who doesn't bowl much.

India Set to Face England in Three-Match ODI Series Ahead of Champions Trophy 2025

The Suryakumar-led team secured a dominant 150-run victory over England in the fifth and final T20I at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on February 2. Despite the England team coming close to winning in the second and fourth matches, they only managed one win in the recently concluded series.

Shivam Dube, who played in the XI, made an impact by taking two wickets. The focus now shifts to the upcoming three-match ODI series between India and England, which serves as the final preparation for both teams ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to be held in Pakistan and Dubai.
