Sunil Gavaskar wants Cameron Green OUT of KKR immediately

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are already under pressure in the ongoing IPL 2026 despite the season having just started. From a struggling bowling attack to an unstable middle order and a major selection headache around their ₹25.20-crore signing Cameron Green, it seems that everything is going wrong for them, as they have already suffered back-to-back defeats.
Cameron Green was supposed to be KKR’s big match-winning all-rounder after Andre Russell’s retirement, someone who could bat fearlessly and bowl important overs. But the Australian all-rounder has become the biggest question mark of their IPL 2026 campaign.
Cameron Green's no-bowling situation creates a big headache for KKR in IPL 2026
The drama actually began when Cricket Australia did not allow Green to bowl for the Kolkata Knight Riders because of his recent back injury and workload management. However, the franchise was aware that Green was recovering, but they didn’t expect him to play purely as a batter at the start.
The Australian fast-bowling all-rounder didn’t bowl against the Mumbai Indians (MI) and then also against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and KKR’s entire balance fell apart.
To make things worse, Green is not doing well with the bat either. He managed only 18 and 2 in the first two matches of this season, and that situation has put even more pressure on KKR’s shaky middle order, leaving the team management confused and helpless.

Sunil Gavaskar wants KKR to drop Cameron Green from XI
Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar has openly asked the KKR to stop forcing Green into the playing XI until he is ready to bowl. The former Indian captain has pointed out that playing the Australian star as a specialist batter doesn’t make sense if he is not bowling and scoring runs, especially when the middle order already looks fragile.
The legendary cricketer even suggested the three-time IPL champions bring in another proper batter immediately to avoid further damage in this season, as their NRR is already dangerous.
Gavaskar was quoted as saying by Star Sports: “KKR will need to think about their combination if Cameron Green is not going to bowl. If he isn't contributing with the ball, then they might have to consider bringing in another specialist batter.
We know he has scored a hundred in the IPL and that he can bat well, but his form hasn't been great recently. Yes, he scored a hundred in a red-ball game in Australia not long ago, but this is where the team needs to look closely at the numbers.”
'They need quick fixes'
KKR’s big problem is that their No. 5 and No. 6 players are failing badly, and this is clearly affecting their performances. Gavaskar said, “Cameron Green at No. 4 is fine, but the bigger concern seems to be the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, where they appear to be struggling a bit.”
Notably, the Kolkata-based franchise will now face the red-form Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their next IPL 2026 clash on April 6 at the Eden Gardens and would be keen to make a strong comeback.
