The superstar player Jasprit Bumrah is all set to block the selection of Rohit Sharma for the upcoming India tour of England 2025 by becoming the new Test captain of the team. India captain Rohit Sharma won't be featuring anymore in the Tests as BCCI has decided to move on from him completely, reported PTI.

The reports claimed that Jasprit Bumrah not being named in the Indian team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was because BCCI is seeing him as the next Test skipper, and they didn't want to risk his future. The fast bowler recently underwent scans and the NCA report suggested that there wasn't anything wrong with the pacer.

BCCI has more or less finalized Jasprit Bumrah as India's next Test captain

However, he is yet to start bowling in full tilt. The report given by NCA medical head Nitin Patel kept the ball in Ajit Agarkar's court related to Jasprit Bumrah. However, the selection committee wanted to protect him as they have more or less finalized Bumrah as India's next Test captain.

The source close to the development confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah's inability to bowl in full tilt was the reason behind his not getting picked for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He confirmed that the fast bowler will be making a comeback in IPL and then will be captaining India in Tests.

Rohit Sharma is unlikely to be picked for Tests again - Source close to BCCI

Speaking to PTI, he said:

"It is understood that the main bone of contention was that Bumrah is yet to start bowling full tilt and those in the know of things said that it is very difficult to get match-fit in such a short time.

“Rather, he can come back for Mumbai Indians in the IPL and then lead India in England as Rohit Sharma is unlikely to be picked for Tests again."

The news of Jasprit Bumrah being appointed as the Test captain has been there since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The fast bowler captained the team in the first match when Rohit Sharma missed the Perth Test due to the birth of his child and led from the front to take the team to win.

After that, when Rohit dropped himself from the last Test in Sydney, Jasprit Bumrah yet again captained the team. Being seen as the next skipper will be a big boost for the premier pacer, and not being considered anymore for the longest format will be a big turning point in Rohit's career.

Rohit Sharma has been going through a rough patch in Tests

Rohit has been going through a rough patch in Tests. He failed in the entire home Test season, and under his leadership, India lost the home Test series to New Zealand and also the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. His scores in the two series read: 2, 52, 0, 8, 18, 11, 3, 6, 10, 3.

Rohit Sharma also returned to the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 for one game but again failed. He managed 31 runs across two innings. It remains to be seen what will be his future in the Tests for India.
