The India vs Pakistan match in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 is set to go ahead as scheduled, as the Supreme Court on Thursday (September 11) declined to urgently list a PIL seeking cancellation of the match.
India and Pakistan are in the same group along with the UAE and Oman. The match between the two neighbours is scheduled to take place on Sunday (September 14) in Dubai.
Indian fans unhappy with BCCI's decision
With just a couple of days left before the match takes place, four law students led by Urvashi Jain, through advocates Sneha Rani, Abhishek Verma, and Md. Anas Chaudhary argues that holding the match after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor undermines national dignity and disregards the sacrifices of Indian soldiers and civilians.
The petitioners also sought directions for the swift implementation of the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, to regulate such decisions in the future.

Supreme Court on India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 match
The Supreme Court has declined to urgently list the PIL and has stated that the match should go on as scheduled. The PIL was presented before Justices JK Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi.
"The match is on Sunday. Please list it tomorrow," the counsel submitted to the bench.
In response, the Supreme Court bench said: "The match must go on."
When the lawyer persisted, stating, "I may have a bad case but please get it listed," the Court firmly
replied, "No, nothing."
With Supreme Court declining to list the PIL, the India vs Pakistan match is all set to take place as originally scheduled. India started their Asia Cup campaign earlier this week with a thumping 9-wicket win over UAE.
India start strong in Asia Cup 2025
Bowling first, India bowled out UAE for a paltry total of 57 runs before chasing down the total inside 5 overs. With momentum on their side, India will be confident of beating Pakistan too. A win in the upcoming India vs Pakistan match will all but confirm the Men in Blue's passage to the Super 4s.
The upcoming match will be the second India vs Pakistan contest this year. Earlier this year, both the teams locked horns against each other in the Champions Trophy with India winning the game by six wickets.
