Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel has reportedly not applied for the post of national selector despite being widely tipped to become the West Zone representative in India’s senior men’s selection committee.
This left many surprised as Patel was rumoured to become the next chairman of India’s senior men’s selection committee after Ajit Agarkar’s exit earlier this month. Earlier, Parthiv Patel confirms he was about to replace Virat Kohli as RCB captain.
Parthiv Patel yet to apply for India selector’s post, BCCI deadline ends today
Parthiv Patel was reportedly among the favourites to replace Ajit Agarkar as the Indian chief selector after his tenure as the chairman ended earlier this month. The BCCI didn’t extend Agarkar’s tenure after a rift between the think tank and drama around Rohit Sharma’s ODI career.
Currently, Pragyan Ojha is serving as the interim chief selection. For the past couple of weeks, Parthiv has been linked to the high-profile job, but he has not even applied for the role of the national selector.
Wednesday, October 14, is the last date to submit applications for the position, unless the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decides to extend the deadline. However, in a surprising development, Parthiv has not yet applied for the national selector’s post, as revealed by a PTI journalist on social media.
He posted on X: “Former India keeper Parthiv Patel, who was widely believed to be the man from the West Zone as national selector, has "NOT" applied for the post till now. " Today is the deadline for the application unless @BCCI extends it.”

Parthiv Patel reveals shocking advice from selector
Recently, Parthiv Patel shared a shocking incident from 2011 that showed the regional bias he faced while trying to return to the Indian team. At 27, Patel approached a national selector and asked what he needed to improve to make India come back.
However, the response he received left him stunned. Amid this, Harmanpreet Kaur will be an asset for Smriti Mandhana, says BCCI president Mithun Manhas.
That West Zone selector told Patel, "You are a Gujarati; why don't you think about starting a business?” The remark deeply motivated Patel, who challenged the selectors to bring him back into the team within two series. He eventually fulfilled his promise.
Parthiv Patel joins AI startup SportzEngage as Co-Founder
Meanwhile, Parthiv Patel has joined SportzEngage as a co-founder as the company launches its first application, CRiQ, in beta. The former wicketkeeper-batter, who earlier invested in the AI-based cricket startup, has now decided to become more closely involved in building the company.
Patel said his growing connection with co-founders Kunal Abhishek and Shamik Datta made him realise that he wanted to help build the company instead of just investing money in it. His move marks an exciting new chapter in his journey.
Patel shared in a LinkedIn announcement: “I didn’t just want to back this. I wanted to be in the room building it. Throughout my career, I've seen how much of cricket still depends on fragmented information and individual observation. The best coach will always beat AI. But the best coach using AI will beat the best coach not using AI.”
How AI App will help cricketers improve their game
The company’s first application, CRiQ, aims to make cricket performance analysis easier for players. It uses videos recorded on a smartphone to study a player’s batting or cricketing technique, provide personalised feedback and track improvement over time. This can help players understand their strengths and identify areas where they need to improve.
SportzEngage has now invited cricketers, coaches and cricket academies to test CRiQ during its beta phase and share feedback to help improve the application. The company’s bigger plan is to build an AI-powered cricket platform that supports player development, talent discovery and match analysis using technology specially designed for the game.
