Suryakumar Yadav denies all the rumours about his international career. After winning the T20 World Cup 2026 Trophy, there were some speculations about the leadership role in the format. A few cricket fans thought that the team management could try out a new captain for the T20I team, replacing Yadav.

In a recent interview with the news agency PTI, Yadav said that he will try his best to guide the team to win the gold medal in the Summer Olympics, which will be held in 2028.

Indian cricket is now on a good momentum, winning back-to-back trophies in various ICC tournaments. Along with the men's national cricket team, the Women's cricket team and the U-19 teams were also claimed to be elite trophies in the recent past. The T20 World Cup 2026 silverware came as the cherry on top.

During the exclusive interview with PTI, Suryakumar Yadav said that winning back-to-back T20 World Cups (2024 T20 World Cup and 2026 T20 World Cup) is a very special moment for him. To continue the trophy-winning streak, Yadav's next target is the Olympic medal.

"I am feeling good. Winning 24 and 26 back-to-back is a very special feeling. After winning the T20 World Cup in 2024, we thought it would be great if we won the trophy in 2026 on our soil", the Team India captain said.

"Next target is definitely to win gold in the Olympics in India. Because we are in a good momentum in the team. So, the Olympic gold of 2028 is our next target. In the same year, there will be a T20 World Cup. And if India wins the 2028 World Cup, it will be great", Suryakumar Yadav added, confirming his plans.

Twelve teams confirmed for the next edition of the T20 World Cup 2026

The next T20 World Cup will be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand. from October 21 to November 19, featuring 20 teams. Including the host nations- Australia and New Zealand, a total of 12 teams have already qualified for the upcoming edition of the ICC T20 World Cup.

The teams that qualified in the Super 8 of the recently concluded edition are also confirmed for the 2028 title race. The remaining eight spots will be determined through regional qualifiers starting mid-2026.

A special moment for Suryakumar Yadav to join the elite panel with some of the greats of the game

After MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav became the third Indian captain to lift the T20 World Cup trophy. The Mumbaikar is currently in the elite club. Despite the massive achievement, he chose to stay humble, showing respect to the successful former skippers.

"I am feeling good after joining that elite company. But it is a very special feeling that I am talking to such great people. So, I will try to do the same in the future and show more trophies to India", the skipper with a smile on face mentioned.
