Suryakumar Yadav has arguably been Mumbai Indians' best batsman in IPL 2025. While most of the Mumbai Indians batsmen even the big names such as Rohit Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya have failed to perform consistently, Suryakumar Yadav has been a constant performer.

Unsurprisingly, he is presently the second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2025.

No other Mumbai Indians batsman features in the top 15 highest run-scorer this season and it pretty much sums up the kind of season Suryakumar is having. And the stunning performance this season has helped him add another feather to his cap.

Suryakumar Yadav breaks AB de Villiers' record:

Suryakumar Yadav has now broken AB de Villiers' record of scoring the most runs in a single IPL season by a non-opening batsman. The former South Africa captain held the record for scoring 687 runs in 16 games while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2016.

Suryakumar went past de Villiers' run tally on Sunday (June 1) during the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The right-handed batsman needed only 15 runs to break de Villiers' record and went on to do it during his 44-run knock.

During the knock, he also reached the 700-run mark in an IPL season for the very first time in his career. In the ongoing season, Suryakumar became only the second batsman after Sai Sudharsan to reach the 700-run mark.

His 44-run knock came off 26 balls and was studded with 4 fours and 3 sixes. The Mumbai Indians star now has 717 runs this season.

The overall record for scoring most runs in a single IPL season is still held by Virat Kohli. The former RCB captain had scored a staggering 973 runs in IPL 2016 and no batsman has managed to reach 900 runs in a season so far.
