After Team India’s six-wicket win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four stage, captain Suryakumar Yadav urged the media to stop calling matches between the two sides a “rivalry.” Suryakumar stated that the contest is no longer a rivalry, given the Men in Blue's dominance in head-to-head clashes.

India have shown their dominance over Salman Ali Agha’s side in the ongoing Asia Cup. The Men in Blue outplayed the Pakistan team in both matches. Pakistan struggled to match India’s energy and intensity with both the bat and the ball. They failed to put up a fight against India in both one-sided encounters.

This Is Not a Rivalry Anymore - Suryakumar Yadav

Speaking at the post-match conference, Suryakumar Yadav downplayed the so-called India-Pakistan rivalry. He stated that the media should stop calling it a rivalry, saying his team simply played better cricket than Pakistan.

“Mujhe aisa lagta hai ki aap logo ko ye question puchne ab band kar dena chahiye puchna rivalry ke upar because rivalry… mere hisab se agar 2 teams 15-20 matches khel rahi hai aur usme agar 7-7 hai ya 8-7 se koi aage chal raha hai toh usko acha cricket khelna bolte hai aur usko rivalry bolte hai. 13-0, 10-1, mujhe pata nahi kya stat hai, but this is not a rivalry anymore."

"You guys should stop asking about the rivalry. If the two teams are playing 15-20 games & the scoreline is 7-7 or 8-7, then it is called a rivalry. If the scoreline is 10-1 or 13-0, I don’t know the exact number, but this is not a rivalry anymore," Suryakumar Yadav said.

India has not lost to Pakistan since the 2022 T20 World Cup

India extended their record against their arch-rivals in T20Is to 12 wins and 3 losses. The result highlights the consistent gap in quality between the two sides.

India have not lost to Pakistan in any white-ball format since the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup and have recorded seven consecutive wins. The Men in Blue can chase or set big totals.

In Sunday’s clash, Pakistan started with 91/1 in the first 10 overs. However, the Indian bowlers bowled with discipline in the second half, slowing the scoring rate and restricting Pakistan to 171/5. They fell short by 20 runs, which allowed India to regain control of the match.

Abhishek Sharma was Named Player of the Match for his Batting

During the run chase, Indian openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill added a 105-run partnership for the first wicket in just 9.5 overs. Abhishek was the pick of the batters for India with 74 runs off 39 balls, including six fours and five sixes. Gill scored 47 from 28 balls.

After Gill fell just short of a half-century and Suryakumar Yadav perished for a duck, Abhishek played an aggressive innings to ensure India never lost momentum. Tilak Varma then sealed the win with an unbeaten 30 from 19 balls, guiding India to a six-wicket victory with seven balls to spare.

India will next face Bangladesh in the Super Four stage at the same venue on September 24. They will play their final Super Four stage match against Sri Lanka on September 26. The Men in Blue can almost confirm their final berth with a victory in the next match.
