The David Miller storm breaks India’s unbeaten run at the T20 World Cup 2026
At one stage, India was in a great position. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh reduced South Africa to 20/3 in just four overs. The energy was high, and it felt like India would crush them. But then came a brutal counterattack by David Miller. The power hitter exploded with 63 runs off just 35 balls.

Young gun Dewald Brevis added a fiery 45, while Tristan Stubbs made a quick unbeaten 44. Their hitting was the turning point of the game as South Africa finished at 187 for 7. And then, India’s chase was a total disaster. The aggressive “hit every ball” plan failed on a slow Ahmedabad pitch.
Ahmedabad horror show in Super 8 game
India’s batting lineup looked flat and confused. The collapse handed South Africa a massive win in the Super 8 clash and ended India’s unbeaten run in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. They had won four straight games in the group stage, but those wins hid many problems.
South Africa exposed every weakness under big pressure. Now the situation is dangerous. India must beat Zimbabwe in their next Super 8 clash on February 26 and the West Indies on March 1 to keep their semifinal dream alive in the T20 World Cup 2026.

Suryakumar Yadav admits Powerplay disaster cost India the South Africa match
Suryakumar Yadav admitted that India lost because the batters could not build good partnerships. He also accepted that the Men in Blue lost the game in the power play.
The Indian captain said at the post-match presentation, "Sometimes, you have to think you cannot win the game in the powerplay, but you can lose it. Did not have the partnerships we needed. We could have batted better.”
However, the stylish batter hopes India will make a strong comeback in their Super 8 match against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on February 26. He added, “Hopefully bat well, bowl well, and field well. That’s it. We’ll try and keep it simple, play the same brand of cricket that we want to play, and nothing changes. I think we’ll come back strong.”
India’s NRR -3.800 puts T20 World Cup 2026 semifinal hopes in danger
Well, the heavy defeat has badly hurt India’s net run rate. It has now dropped to -3.800. This means even if India wins their next Super 8 matches, simple victories may not be enough. They might need big wins to improve their net run rate and stay ahead in the points table.
On the other hand, South Africa is sitting comfortably on the points table. Their strong win pushed their net run rate to +3.800. This gives them a big advantage. Even if they lose a close match later, they can still stay ahead because of this strong cushion.
