Suryakumar Yadav will be seen in action, if he makes his debut for India in the upcoming five-match T20I series against England. Yadav, who has been a cornerstone of Mumbai Indians’ batting in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the years, earned his maiden call-up to Indian team recently.
He has also been amongst the runs for Mumbai in domestic tournaments as well and was on the cusp of being called up for the Australia white-ball series down under. However, he was overlooked for the same, but instead given a chance at home, against the Englishmen, as BCCI selectors experiment with players with T20 World Cup in mind.
Meanwhile, former India batsman VVS Laxman called Suryakumar Yadav “an excellent role model for young cricketers” and also explained his reasons for doing so.
Suryakumar Yadav Is A Positive Run Getter, Plays In Tough Situations And Wins The Match: VVS Laxman
VVS Laxman opined why he is the perfect role model for young, budding cricketers. Suryakumar Yadav is a veteran in India domestic cricket despite his age of 30 years.
“He deserves it, I think he is a great role model for youngsters, especially in India; because they lose patience very quickly – because all positive run getters in first class cricket expect to get into the Indian team – but it is difficult.
There is so much of quality, so much of talent and so much of competition, but what did Suryakumar do? – he goes back to first class cricket, scores runs for Mumbai, whenever he gets an opportunity for Mumbai Indians – he is a positive run getter, plays in tough situations and wins the match and that’s what you expect from a player,” Laxman said on Star Sports show Game Plan.
Suryakumar Yadav Certainly Deserved A Place In The Indian Playing XI: VVS Laxman
Many experts have backed Suryakumar’s inclusion in the Indian team, mentioning the strong Indian bench strength and the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup as well, which India will host in October-November this year.
“Ultimately there is a saying which my coach taught me early on, ‘If the selectors are not opening the door, break open the door!’, the only way you can do that is by your performance – we’re not sure if he will get to play in the playing XI but he definitely deserves a spot in the squad of that T20 Indian team,” Laxman added.
Suryakumar had mentioned how his whole family and he started crying over a video call after the news of his inclusion in India’s T20I squad was confirmed and all of his family members shed tears.
