Suryakumar Yadav looked back at one of the finest innings of his T20I career on Thursday (July 10) by revisiting his memorable century against England at Trent Bridge in 2022. The former India captain shared the special moment on social media, recalling the knock that brought him his maiden international hundred even though India ended up losing the match by 17 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav's nostalgic post came at a time when India are enduring a difficult T20I series in England under new captain Shreyas Iyer. After the opening match of the five-match series was washed out, India lost the next three completed games to concede the series with one match still remaining. The defeat also followed India's earlier T20I series loss to Ireland, leaving Shreyas Iyer still searching for his first victory as India's T20I captain.

Suryakumar Yadav looks back at Trent Bridge century

Suryakumar Yadav reposted a Mumbai Indians tribute to his unforgettable Trent Bridge innings and wrote:

"Though it dint help my team win. But first one for the Country 🇮🇳💪 #alwaysSpecial"

The post quickly grabbed attention, especially because it came just hours after India surrendered the T20I series against England under Shreyas Iyer's leadership.

Suryakumar Yadav himself is no longer leading India's T20I side. The 35-year-old was removed as captain following India's win at the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, with the selectors handing the responsibility to Shreyas Iyer.

However, the captaincy transition has not delivered the desired results so far. Under Iyer, India first lost a bilateral T20I series to Ireland before suffering another series defeat against England. With one match still remaining in the ongoing five-match contest, India are still searching for their first victory under the new captain.

India lost the match where Suryakumar Yadav scored the ton vs England

Suryakumar Yadav's memorable hundred came in the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge on July 10, 2022.

Batting first, England posted an imposing 215/7, riding on David Malan's 77 off 39 balls and useful contributions from Liam Livingstone (42*), Harry Brook (19) and Jason Roy (27). Ravi Bishnoi (2/30) and Harshal Patel (2/35) were India's most successful bowlers.

India's chase began disastrously as Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli were all dismissed inside the powerplay. At 31/3, the visitors looked out of the contest before Suryakumar Yadav launched a breathtaking counterattack.

The right-hander smashed 117 off just 55 balls, hammering 14 fours and six sixes at a staggering strike rate of 212.72. He brought up his maiden T20I century in only 48 deliveries and almost single-handedly dragged India back into the contest.

Despite his heroic effort, India eventually finished on 198/9, falling 17 runs short of the target. Reece Topley claimed three wickets, while David Willey picked up two as England avoided a clean sweep. India, however, still won the three-match series 2-1.

Suryakumar Yadav's career stats

Suryakumar established himself as one of the finest T20 batters in world cricket after making his international debut in 2021.

In 113 T20Is, he has scored 3,272 runs at an average of 36.35 and a remarkable strike rate of 162.94, including four centuries and 25 half-centuries.

England has been one of his favourite opponents. In 13 innings against England, Suryakumar has accumulated 360 runs at an average of 27.69 and an outstanding strike rate of 172.24. His Trent Bridge century remains his highest score against the Three Lions.

His numbers in English conditions are even more impressive. Across three T20I innings in England, Suryakumar has scored 171 runs at an average of 57.00 while striking at 201.17. Those figures include his memorable 117 at Trent Bridge, an innings that continues to be remembered as one of the greatest T20I knocks by an Indian batter despite ending in a losing cause.

With India enduring a difficult transition period under a new captain, Suryakumar Yadav's post served as a reminder of happier days in England and one of the most spectacular innings of his international career.
