India’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh in August is expected to go ahead as planned, despite earlier speculations about the postponement. However, there is uncertainty around the availability of Team India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who recently underwent surgery for a sports hernia in Munich.

Diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh have been strained following the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina government in August last year. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) released the schedule in April.

Notably, the three-match ODI series will begin on August 17 in Mirpur and conclude on August 23 in Chattogram. It will be followed by a three-match T20I series, scheduled from August 26 to August 31.

India Tour of Bangladesh Likely to Proceed as Scheduled in August

According to a report by InsideSport, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has no plans to postpone the upcoming tour of Bangladesh. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma might return to ODI cricket following their Test retirements.

However, Suryakumar Yadav’s participation remains uncertain due to his recent sports hernia surgery. A BCCI official stated that there has been no communication from the government about cancelling or postponing the tour but added that they would review the situation if needed.

“At the moment, the series is on. We haven’t had any discussions regarding postponement or cancelling the series. We haven’t had any instructions from the government either on cancelling the series. If such a situation arises, we will take a call accordingly,” a BCCI official told InsideSport.

India Last Won an ODI Series in Bangladesh in 2014

India last clinched an ODI series in Bangladesh in 2014. In their most recent tour to the country, the Men in Blue, led by Rohit Sharma, lost the series 1-2.

According to the schedule, India are set to play their first-ever bilateral T20I series in Bangladesh. The defending T20 World Cup champions will aim to continue their dominance, having whitewashed Bangladesh 3-0 in their last T20I meeting at home.

Following the tour, the Asia Cup 2025 is slated for September. The tournament is the only multi-nation event before the 2026 T20 World Cup. If it goes ahead as planned, the BCCI may withdraw some key players from the Bangladesh T20Is to prepare for the Asia Cup.

Suryakumar Yadav Undergoes Abdominal Surgery in Munich

Suryakumar Yadav recently underwent surgery for a sports hernia in Munich, Germany, following a consultation with a specialist in London.

It is his second surgery of this nature, with the previous one occurring in 2024 after an ankle injury during the South Africa white-ball tour.

Suryakumar Yadav will undergo a two-week recovery before beginning rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Suryakumar is currently recovering ahead of a packed white-ball season. He was last seen in action during IPL 2025, where he delivered his best-ever performance, finishing as the second-highest run-getter with 717 runs at a strike rate of 167.91.
