Suryakumar Yadav's wife Devisha breaks silence on Hardik Pandya captaincy fiasco

Suryakumar Yadav's wife, Devisha, expressed delight at her husband being named India's T20I captain for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka. Devisha shared a heartwarming message on her Instagram story as Suryakumar embarks on his new journey as the T20I skipper for the Men in Blue in Sri Lanka.

Suryakumar Yadav will captain India in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, starting on July 27 in Pallekele. Yadav has replaced Rohit Sharma, who retired from T20I cricket after the T20 World Cup 2024 victory. This series also marks the beginning of Gautam Gambhir’s tenure as the men's team head coach.

Hardik Pandya was initially seen as the likely successor to Rohit Sharma as India’s T20I captain. Pandya had been named vice-captain during the T20 World Cup 2024. However, recent reports have confirmed that Suryakumar Yadav will take on the role, considering Pandya's string of injuries and workload management.

Devisha took to Instagram to express her pride at Suryakumar Yadav's journey to captaincy, acknowledging it was unexpected for both of them. She praised his dedication and emphasized that this is just the start of a promising new chapter.

So proud of you and how far you've come but this is just the beginning of your legacy. Long way to go," Suryakumar Yadav's wife wrote.

Suryakumar Yadav has some captaincy experience, having led India to a 4-1 series win over Australia last year and a 1-1 draw against South Africa. Newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir backed Yadav as a captain for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be played in India and Sri Lanka.

The 33-year-old made his T20 debut for India against England in 2021. The right-handed batter has scored 2,340 runs in 68 matches at an impressive average of 43.33 and a strike rate of 167.74. He has smashed four centuries and 19 half-centuries in his career. He is currently the second-ranked batter in T20Is.
